Welcome to Rootschat!
What is it you want to know?
What have you found out already?
If you're not sure this is him, it's a wild goose chase to spend time finding out about him.
You need to go back to the part you ARE sure of, and perhaps somebody can help you from there.
-
There is more info but as goldie says if the info I have given you is wrong I have wasted my time, so please come back

Thank you all very much for your replies. This was my first Rootschat post and I was a little unsure how much information i should include.
I am trying to trace my Stollard ancestors. I took this search over from a family member now deceased, so I have some information. My oldest record is of a Henry Richard Stollard christened 8 Feb 1824 in St Peter's Cornhill. He married a Catherine Mullett 1846.
I have an old letter from the Guildhall Library about Watermen &Lightermen, and it lists a Henry Richard Stollard apprenticed to William Stollard of St. George Middlesex 9 March 1837 becoming free 14 March 1844. I am hoping that William Stollard was his father.
-
So you have to work back from the pieces of evidence you have.
What are the parents names given on Henry Richard's marriage certificate?
Who are the parents given as on the Henry Richard Stollard's baptism you have found in 1824?
Where did you find this baptism?
I cannot find a baptism of a Henry Richard Stollard 8th Feb 1824 at St Peters Cornhill.
There is a baptism of a Henry Richard Stollard (transcribed as Stallard), at St George in the East, 1st June 1823, born 9th Feb 1823, (only a mile or so distant to St Peters Cornhill), father William. mother Jane. William is a lighterman.
Have you found them on the 1841 Census? Are these the same people louis maud found in the 1861 Census?
William and Jane live Old Gravel Lane, St George in the East in the 1841 Census. He is 48 and a lighterman.
Their son Henry is aged 19 and a Waterman. There is an abbreviation after his name - possible Ap for apprentice, which would fit with the information about his apprenticeship you have. Henry Richard gives his place of birth as St George in the East, so this is the birth of the Henry Richard in 1823.
It seems a bit of a stretch to think there would be two Henry Richard Stollards with father William lightermen/watermen at exactly the same time at the same place, but not impossible.
I can't see where you got this baptism record in 1824 from.
There is an interesting item in the London Gazette in 1885 on the death of Henry Richard Stollard.
By now he is a 'Steam Tug Proprietor and Lighterman'. It's viewable on findmypast.
-
By the way, as to how much information to put on a post here on Rootschat, the answer is always as much as possible!
This saves anybody trying to help you going over ground you have already covered, and also gives them a basis on which to research further.
What company does your information about Henry Richard's apprenticeship say he was apprenticed into?
Apprenticeships were not always with the company in which they worked.
I have lightermen who had apprenticeships with The Drapers' Company, and also a silk dyer who had an apprenticeship with The Drapers' Company and not the Dyers Company.
There is a good website called londonroll, https://www.londonroll.org, which has information about thousands of apprenticeships. I couldn't find your Stollards. They may have been in one of the companies not covered by this site.
Do you know the distinction between watermen and lightermen?
'Watermen' carried passengers, and 'lightermen' carried goods.
-
The apprenticeship bindings of the Thames Watermen and Lightermen have been indexed and transcribed online (from 1688, on FindMyPast).
They show that Henry Richard Stollard was bound apprentice to William Stollard on 9 March 1837 in the Company of Watermen and Lightermen and freed on 14 March 1844, in accordance with the record that you hold.
William Stollard worked out of Shadwell. Shadwell is adjacent to St George in the East.
In the Company of Watermen it was very common for sons to be apprenticed to their father or uncle. The trade was often passed down through many generations of the same family.
Further records of the Company (up to about 1890) are held at Guildhall Library, London.

Once again thanks for your kind help. The only information about Henry Richard Stollard comes from a short family tree for Catherine Mullett. Henry Richard married Catherine 1846. This information was one of the things I inherited from my late sister. I don't know who wrote the Mullett tree, or where they got their information. My mother was a Stollard, the daughter of Henry Stollard (b24 June 1860 in High St Wapping) and Emma Yates Cornell. My parents are now long dead. I was by far the youngest of the family who knew my parents. Although I was born in the Uk, I was raised and still live in NZ. The information I have about the apprenticeships comes from letters from the Company of Watermen & Lightermen and City of London Guildhall. The letters are dated 30th October 1978 and 6th November 1978 respectively. These letters were sent to my sister. An interesting note at the bottom of the letter from Company of Watermen and Lightermen says "...there is certainly one earlier generation, namely William Stollard to whom both Richard and Henry Richard were apprenticed."

The only information about Henry Richard Stollard comes from a short family tree for Catherine Mullett. Henry Richard married Catherine 1846.
To have solid evidence this is the correct family, you need to get the actual marriage certificate for Henry Richard Stollard and Catherine Mullet if you do not already have it.
You do not say you have got it.
To be absolutely sure, it is not enough to say this 'probably' him.
The marriage certificate will give you Henry Richard's father's name, and his occupation.
As this marriage was after 1837, you need to send to the uk General Record Office for it.
It can all be done on-line. I think at the moment it costs about 11 pounds.
The marriage is in the March quarter 1846 in the Rotherhithe district, Volume IV, Page 401.
You can look this up on a site called 'FreeBMD'.
All this information will be needed to fill in the boxes on the GRO site.

Added:
Ok. Scrub all that. You don't need to spend any money.
familysearch.org has the film of St Mary's Rotherhithe.
You can view, and copy, the actual marriage certificate. 8th MArch 1846.
If you've not used familysearch, it has billions of records, and it's all free.
You will need to register, but again, it's all free to do so.
Go to Search -> Records.
Henry Richard's father is indeed William given as a lighterman, as is Catherine Mullett's father.
Henry Richard signs his name. A Richard Stollard signs as a witness.
It says the marriage was by licence, so there may well be some more information somewhere.
-
The baptism of Henry Richard in 1823 is a transcription only on findmypast.
You can't see the actual entry in the register.
It was at St George in the East, Stepney.
familysearch.org have the film of the register, but it has a little key symbol over it, which means it is locked and can't be viewed from home, only at a Church of the Latter Day Saints Library.
If you live within the Auckland library area, you can view these locked films on a computer at the library, (they are classed as an 'affiliate library'.)
I don't have an Ancestry sub. Perhaps someone will look there and see if they have the actual images.

Just to confirm:
-
The image of both Henry Richard's baptism and his marriage are on Ancestry.
His parents William Stollard and Jane Price married 8/8.1816 St. George in the East (on Ancestry).
His 2nd marriage to Sarah shows his father as William Stollard, Silk Dyer (on Ancestry).

Again thanks for all the help, you've given me plenty to investigate. I am going to the Christchurch public library genealogy department on Wednesday and I will hopefully be able to print out some of the documents.
Louisa Maud that is definitely an interesting item about William Stollard and Ann Kearney. I wonder what the story is there. The sentence seems quite harsh, but then we don't know the circumstances.
Thanks and regards to everyone Lesley1002
