Post by: indigo78 on Saturday 26 March 22 14:02 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me find a William or (willie) sartin born qbt 1881 in yeovil to Elizabeth and John sartin. He is in the 1891 census for 9 quidham place yeovil aged 10 with his siblings. But i havent been able to trace him after that date. No death records either. I have found his baptism and birth registered.
Thank you.

A possible William in 1901

Reg. Dist. Newport
Piece No. 4962
Folio 267
Page 9

He appears to be residing here:- Institution name The Barracks
Institution location Barrack Hill Newport Monmouthshire

His occupation is listed as Driver, Royal Field Artillery

Born Yeovil but birth year given as 1883.  I can't see any 1883 birth for a William Sartin.  I assume this is the birth record that you have:-

SARTIN, WILLIAM       GILLARD
GRO Reference: 1881  S Quarter in YEOVIL  Volume 05C  Page 426

Having seen the military record for William Sartin I can see that this William is not the correct one.  If this William has a birthplace in Dorset then why did the 1901 census record have Yeovil as birth place?

Corscombe is only 8 or 9 miles from Yeovil
