Is it possible to find RIC service records on-line apart from UK Archives at Kew ?
The person I am interested in is Peter Joseph Joyce ,born Bagenalstown Co. Carlow 7th May 1892 .
He is on the 1911 census living (boarding ) in Ferns Co. Wexford as a post office clerk .

I vaguely remember finding something a few years ago that pointed to him joining the RIC but for the life of me cannot find it again .
I have been told that he died in WW1 but nothing in any list of WW1 Irish deaths looks even remotely likely .
Have had no luck finding either a marriage or death cert for Peter Joseph Joyce in Ireland either .

Find My Past has a list of members of RIC. I was able to search the index to find a couple of pages of P Joyce and PJ Joyce mentions. To get further you need to sign up and pay $$$$$

If that does not work then I would have a look at the marriages of his siblings to see if he appeared as a witness at any of the marriages.
He may have served in the 1914/18 war but not for the British Army. He may have gone to the US or Aust/NZ and served in one of their Armies. He may have taken a new name? (check under his mother's maiden name but keeping same birthdate) He may have gone by his second name of Joseph.

Thanks for that .That would seem to be him and would indicate that he survived WW 1 .I wonder did he perhaps emigrate to either USA or UK perhaps ?
As far as I am aware he did not end up in Ireland .
Will have a look again during the week .
Again thanks .

It must have been Find My Past where I saw it some years ago .
Looked at available death records for Carlow Great War dead from British Australian and US army and nothing I could find seemed to be him .His mothers maiden name was Brady .
His brother died in 1920 in Australia after serving in ANZAC forces and he is listed among the Carlow deaths from WW 1 .
The R I C record above would seem to suggest he survived and re enlisted after army service .

Would he have had a sister in Booterstown Dublin in 1976?
The second sister of Peter Joseph Joyce (Bro.Romuald Oblate of St. Benedict) died 5th Ave New York has an acknowledgment in the Irish Independent May 14 1976. Granted there is no mention of Carlow and 1976 is pushing it a bit.

Only one sister reached adulthood and she died in 1975 .
I imagine he either died pre 1940 or so or emigrated and lost contact with his family .Nothing in Irish marriage or death records looks likely to me but then again not every death is recorded .
His grand nephews/nieces were of the opinion that he died in WW 1 but again both the RIC record ( assuming that's him ) and no mention in a service death list would indicate otherwise

Since you state that you are interested in this Peter Joseph Joyce, he was born on the 10th May 1892 at Kilree Street, Bagenalstown.

This is also the birth date that was given on the RIC service record when a person of that name was appointed on the 1st August 1912.

Looking at it again agree it does look more like 10th rather than 7th of May
