I am looking for help to solve a mystery.
I have an Eliza Andrew/s who married John Pelmear James (master mariner)
In all the censuses i have found, she has put her place of birth as Marazion, Cornwall.
It would appear her and John married in Liverpool in 1842. In the censuses her first 2 children were born Liverpool while rest were born in Cornwall.
I have recieved today her marriage certificate to John James (mariner) with her father as Robert Andrew/s.
I have now found her father! I have found a babtism record for him being born in Marazion, Cornwall in 1795 to William and Catherine Andrews.
Now the thing is i cannot find any birth records for Eliza or a marriage record for Robert, in the hopes of finding the mother.
Could anyone please help!
Thanks in advance!

A possible baptism in 1821 - the only one I could find with Robert as father.

What occupation is given for Robert Andrew(s) on Eliza's marriage certificate?

I have now found her father! I have found a baptism record for him being born in Marazion, Cornwall in 1795 to William and Catherine Andrews.
His 1795 baptism record states he was "baptised at Marazion". Robert had 7 siblings, all with that same baptism note. Parish/Chapel name for all the Andrew/s baptisms was Hilary, St.
Here's his parents' 1788 marriage record:
Day Month 13-Mar
Year 1788
Parish Circuit Or Chapel Hilary, St.
Groom Fn William
Groom Sn ANDREWS
Groom Rank Profession mariner
Bride Fn Catherine
Bride Sn HARVEY

Yes i just saw that. Im not entirely convinced thats my Eliza and her father.
Oh well back to the drawing board. Not knowing the wife/mother or when he died i dont think i 100% link Eliza to Robert and only going by her marriage certificate

Where is this wonderful information??? Maybe, hopefully siblings may hold a clue via the 1841 censuses before Eliza got married

If it helps, the chap baptised at Marazion is Robert James Andrew. See Reply #6.
He turns up as a marriage witness in 1818, also in Hilary, St.

Hopefully you can find a suitable baptism for Eliza with father named Robert (painter). Bearing in mind his occupation may have been different when she was born.

Thank you! So do i! If i lived closer to Cornwall i would quite happily look through the parish records myself to find that missing link between Eliza and Robert

There are so many helpful records on the OPC database that you can probably do what you need from home. You can even do a Person Search, which will bring up all the records the person appears in. Everything from tax records to criminal records, in addition to the usual parish life events.

perhaps none of them have bought the marriage certificate to check her father's details.

He left a will. From the probate, he was a Master Mariner and died 28 July 1859 at Penzance. The will was proved by the oath of Nicholas Andrew of 13 James Street, Liverpool, shipbroker, the son and sole executor.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful help! You have given me much to work with and i do believe Robert is Eliza's father but will still look for that birth record.
Thank you!!!

On the 1842 marriage cert you now have: do the witnesses appear to be related to Eliza?
Also, where was Eliza living when she married? Sometimes those details can offer further clues when researching an ancestor.

The handwriting is hard to make out the names. I think its Isaac ...... and Elizabeth Pith?
It does state they were living at 19 Kent Street?
John James was a Mariner, his father John James was a joiner.
They were married at St Micheals Church in Liverpool,.
Their 2 older children were born in Liverpool, with the first not long after they were married. The othere were born in Penzance, Cornwall.
It makes sense they married in Liverpool. They were full age at time of marriage

William remarried to Ann Randle, widow, 14 Dec 1825.
This would make sense as i have found a census in 1851 with a William Andrew Master Mariner, wife Ann
I did wonder if he had remarried
