Good evening. I have just come back on to Rootschat after a number of years off. I would like to know if there is anyone that could do a look up for me for death/burial. The details are, William
Burnett aged 48. Died 3Q 1892. Durham. Ref 10a 378.
I would like to know if the next of kin or person notifying is shown.
In the past, a lot of money has been spent on certificates which have been incorrect.
Many thanks in advance.

The death is registered in South Shields
From the Northern Echo, Monday 22nd August 1892
The Rev. William Burnett, Unitarian minister at Barnard Castle, died suddenly on Saturday at South Shields.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately it is not our William. I’ve rejoined Ancestry but still struggling with him. I really appreciate your help. :)

If you put down what you know about your William and what you are struggling with people will be able to look :)

Hi, Thank you for your message. William has been an enigma for years.
The information I have is:
William Burnett, according to Railway records he was born 25 March 1889 in Keppochill Lanarkshire, Scotland (birth not found yet).
Father William Burnett, Mother Elizabeth (Robertson).
First marriage to Elizabeth Easton 28 Oct 1870 in Barony, Lanarkshire - William's father is down as being a Private in the 11th Regt of Foot (deceased).
1871 Census William living with wife Elizabeth - Maryhill, Lanarkshire.
Elizabeth then died.
Second marriage Annie Maria Alma Cook, Carlisle - 15 Nov 1877 - Marriage certificate obtained. Father is down as William Burnett (deceased) Second Lt 11th Regt of Foot (Huge promotion :D).
1881 Census - William, Annie and son William living in Normanton, Wakefield.
1891 Census - William missing from census - Annie down as wife - living with children.
Children -
William b.1880 Normanton, Wakefield. Died 8 April 1889 Carlisle- Birth and death cert obtained.
Violet Emma b1883 Newcastle upon Tyne.
James b.1885 Gateshead Durham. D. 4 June 1916.
Gladstone b.1886 Newcastle upon Tyne. D. 11 June 1916. Birth certificate obtained.
Rose b. 3 May 1887 (Great Grandmother) Birth never found but death cert obtained.
Lily b. 16 May 1890 South Shields. D. 25 March 1993. Birth and death cert obtained.
Young Williams death in 1889 was noted as William (Father) as informant.
Lily's death in 1993. Informant was Annie.
On the 1901 Census Annie is listed as wife and married.
1911 Census Annie is married but Head of household.
William seems to have been absent from 1889 onwards.
Sorry this seems a lot of info for you. It is really the birth and death of William that is stumping us. On one of the census he is listed as being born in Liverpool, Lancashire but I think this maybe an error for Lanarkshire.
Any help would be appreciated. I have had many people try to help in the past and have found extra info but I seem to be going round in circles.
Many many thanks ???

All good information there.
Father William Burnett, Mother Elizabeth (Robertson).
Have you found their marriage and when/where it took place?
What occupation does your William have on the records you do have?
Have you got the death for Annie to see if she was down as widowed?
-
William Burnett, according to Railway records he was born 25 March 1889
ah that can't be right if he married in the 1870's
-
Have you ruled out this one in 1901 Glamorgan
fireman married age 53 vessels at sea born Glasgow :-\

Wife Annie appears to be indexed under the name Burnell on the 1921 census. Info from free search:
1921 Census
Carlisle, Cumberland
Annie M A Burnell; Head; Widowed; born: 1855, Portsmouth, Hampshire
Annie R Appleton; Boarder; Single; born: 1896, Edinburgh, Scotland
minimaiden2710, is this first instance of Annie being recorded as a widow? Also, do you have any marriage records of William's children, and do any record him as deceased?

William Burnett, according to Railway records he was born 25 March 1889
ah that can't be right if he married in the 1870's
I think it's just a typo, Milliepede. The older threads have the birthdate as 25 Mar 1849.

Hi. Thank you all for your replies. I need to really digest them.
On the railway record I have his DOB is 25 March….the record is dated 1879 and he is 29 years old. NBR 5 years and NER 2 years. This is in Normanton, Wakefield.
I have been looking for his parents marriage but tbh have no idea where they came from.
I have read on one of the thousands of papers I have that he was born in Keppochill, Lanarkshire but this has drawn a blank.
I even took a trip to the Liverpool records office a few years ago but couldn’t find anything (a census states he was from Liverpool).
When his sons both died in WW1 in 1916, James Burnetts records (04 June) say son of Annie MA Burnett. Gladstone records (11 June) say son of William and Annie Burnett - strange!
I had not come across the 1921 census but this sounds correct - thank you.
The last mention of him is on his son’s (William again) death certificate as informant.
Again thank you all. I am going to check out everything you’ve found.

Sorry Cuffie, I just spotted the part about the childrens marriage certificates.
I have:
Violet Emma to Isaac Robson - Carlisle - Aug 6th 1905 (William deceased)
Rose to Arthur Grubb - Carlisle - Oct 9th 1912 (William is deceased).

Another old thread, in which JAP detailed a timeline of the family including various bits of info, although it omits info found in later threads (eg William's first marriage). William's occupation given as "Insurance Agent" on birth (1900) and death (1903) certificates of daughter Lily.

minimaiden2710, what was William's occupation recorded as on Violet's marriage record in 1905?
Also, do you have Annie's death certificate? If so, did it name her as the widow of William and give his occupation?
-
Yes, I’m afraid that there have been many posts in the past. I got to the stage where he was driving me insane, hence I stopped.
So…… on Violet’s marriage certificate is says he was a labourer (1905).
On Rose’s he was a Railway Guard (1912)
On is first marriage it says he was a Railway Guard (1870)
On the 1871 census he was a Railway Guard.
His first wife’s death certificate he was a iron forger.
At his son Williams birth he was a Railway Goods Guard (1880)
1881 Census - Railway Goods Guard.
Lilys birth - insurance agent (1890)
On Annie’s death certificate she is listed as Widow of William Burnett - General Labourer (deceased).
I have been working on this all day and am no further forward.
I really do appreciate the work and time you have put into this to try and help me. Thank you 😊
