Looking for the death of William Soppet or Soppett. Birth 2 Mar 1762 in Stannington. Family Search ID MSQV-717.
Married Isabella Gray on 13 Oct 1798 at St Mary, Gateshead.
They had 3 children; John 27 Jul 1799, Margaret Ann 19 Feb 1802, James Gray 17 Feb 1809. All in Gateshead.
He does not appear in 1841 Census

Hi
I've not found his burial but there is a military record for him in 1803
William Soppet Gateshead 1803 61st Foot .Substitute
It may explain the gap between his children and he may have died elsewhere while on active service against Napoleon.Although to be honest he seems a bit old to join the Army.

Sorry if you already know this - on John's baptism his occupation is given as Ship's Carpenter
-
Bapt of Margaret Ann has William as a Ships Carpenter +
Child's surname spelt SOPPET, Father's spelt SOPPETT. 1st Daughter.
Father baptised at Close Meeting in Newcastle, Mother daughter of Jas. GREY
On Johns bapt 1799 a Ship Carpenter also.
On James Gray Soppet's bapt Father William is a Pitman +

What do you have to confirm that William was born in Stannington in 1762 ?
Baptism record image for the first child, John,

so that says William was a native of Gateshead - though that is the Bishop's Transcript rather than the Original Parish Register, so you'd need to also check the original to be sure the BT doesn't have an error.

There is a baptism in Gateshead 23 Feb 1752 for a William Soppet with father Thomas. It looks as though that William may have been buried at Shotley in 1822.
Marriage in Gateshead in 1851 between a Thomas Soppet and Sidney Shields

Thank you Boo,
In reality, I don't know if I have the correct William Soppet.
I have the baptism records for all three children, so I know I have their parents names correct.
The youngest son, James Gray Soppet is my GG Grandfather.
My source for John is from a transcript on MyHeritage. I see yours is from Family Search and is an image, which I am grateful to get.
I have the image of the Bishops Transcript for the marriage of William and Isabella.
What I really need is the Parish register, which should give William's parents names.
That would confirm whether or not his parents are Ralph & Margaret Soppet and therefore he was born at Stannington in 1762. This makes him 36 when married. (Isabella was 29)
The next nearest William I can find in age was born at Gateshead in 1752 to parents Thomas and Sydney which makes him age 46 if he married Isabella - a rather large age difference. (17 years)
There is a William Soppitt b. 1782 but in Queenhithe, London, which tends to rule him out.
I cannot go to Newcastle to look up parish registers because I am in New Zealand, so I'm a bit stuck.

Thank you Rosie,
Can you give me the source for the baptism of William in 1752?
Also the burial at Shotley in 1822
Did you make a typo of 1851 for the marriage between a Thomas Soppet and Sidney Shields.
I have an entry for 17 June 1751 for that couple. My source is the IGI.

The Parish Register of the Marriage in 1798 is very unlikely to have his Parents names.
The entry on FreeREG is usaully taken from the Parish records and any other info is included.
Do you know when Isabella died and where?
Was she bapt 14 Jan 1776 Newcastle upon Tyne to JAMES/ANN, Father a Taylor (Tailor)
Also the bapt of Margt Ann has William Sop* baptised at Close Meeting in Newcastle.
(Non Conformist or Adult bapt ?)
Sorry more questions than answers at this stage.
From what I can see Margaret Ann Sop* married John RANSON 24 Dec 1820 Gateshead
A Nicholas WATSON was a witness***
(I have followed the Ranson's through Census and her pob/dob seems correct)
A Nicholas WATSON married Isabella SOPPET 22 Oct 1815 St Peter, Wallsend, Nbl
No marital status for either shown
Just seemed that was very coincidental.
All above on FreeREG
