I wonder if anyone on here can help me find a marriage record for William DAVIDSON and Isobel RAINIE
They had 3 children all born at Cairnandrew in Gamrie Banffshire in 1760, 1763 and 1766
I have had no luck finding any marriages between Davidson's and Rainies anywhere in Scotland, I've tried as many variations of the names as I can think of, but have now run out of ideas.
If anyone can give me any advice I'd be really grateful
Thanks folks

Not all parish records are available for that far back which may be why you have had no luck

Just to add to what CaroleW has said -
Not all records pre 1855 have survived. It can vary a great deal from Parish to Parish.
Some were stored in places where they literally disintegrated over the years. So not finding them does not mean they never existed.
Does not help with our research over 200 years later.

Console yourself with the thought that most surviving pre-1855 marriage records in rural areas are not all that informative in any case. In particular it is unusual for them to tell you the names of the parents of the couple who are getting married. So it doesn't often make much difference whether you can find them or not.

Thanks for the info everyone. Seems like I'll have to find another way to trace back further.

There was a 4th child born under a different spelling.

Perhaps Kathrine is a hint to grandmother's name?

Hello Alan
Thanks for the info. I was including Katherine as one of the three I had managed to find. I've got
Katherine b. 1760
Alexander b. 1763
John b. 1766
I've been trying to establish if the John Davidson is the same one that was living in Boyndie and married Jannet Smout (smollett) 1st Feb 1791 in Banff.
They had 10 children, the last one being George Davidson who was born in Monquitter 20th Feb 1813.
I am struggling to pin John Davidson's birth down, but he lived and farmed in Boyndie and there was an Alexander Davidson who witnessed the birth/baptisms of some of his children, so I was having to work on a bit a guesswork that Alexander and John were brothers. Then it was a process of elimination to find two brothers born in the right time frame............
It's a bit sketchy but the two born to William Davidson and Isobel Rainie are the only two in all of NE Scotland that fit. Just wish I could find actual evidence.
The Davidson descendants of the John I'm searching for ended up in the Fyvie and Gamrie area.
I'm hitting a brick wall on getting back further

Pardon me. Reading glasses incident...
Now I see that it says James Davidson. I wonder if that is William's brother married to Isobel's sister Elspet?

Hi again Alan
Could you please give me a bit more information about the James Davidson and Elspet Gerrie. I'm not finding anything on them
Thanks

Good chance you've already seen this but I found a Davidson related document amongst my Joass of Banff. Love when you are searching for a name and you already had that document because of a different name.

Looks like Davidson's were at Cairnandrew for generations.

The birth for a child born to the James Davidson was much later. Pardon me. Disregard.
