Hi all,
I have in my tree a James Carver Gooch married to Ann.
In 1851 in Norwich, James is a 28 Glazier & Painter born Norwich and Ann is aged 30 born Neatishead, Norfolk.
In 1871 Ann is aged 52 married, born Neatishead with son James but no husband.
In 1881 Ann is 63 and by herself still shown as married & born Neatishead.
I have had no luck in finding a marriage of James to Ann and hope someone can help.
Any assistance much appreciated.

Ann's maiden name appears to be Harrington (from the birth registrations of children named James Carver Gooch in 1848 and 1853).
-
There is a marriage Sep 1843 Norwich 13 336 between Ann Harrington and a William Gooch.
Not sure if this is an error or not.

According to the Marriage Locator, the marriage 'emeltom' has was at Heigham (Norwich Reg Dist)

My father's mother's name was Gooch and most of them that I have traced so far all came from around Great Ryburgh near Fakenham, however they also had a Norwich connection but in my researches I've discovered that Gooch is a very common name in Norfolk and Suffolk.
I will delve into the records I have salted away and see if there is a connection.
cheers, Ian

Thank you all for your help.
I had seen the marriage of Ann Harrington to William Gooch but discarded it due to his name.
The marriage locator suggesting Heigham (Norwich) seemed a good choice as I understand the registers were destroyed during the war. The fact it was 1843 seems about right as the first baptism I found was in 1844 but it refers to the marriage "emoltom" found and the reference nos. imply it was William.
I have found some children's birth registrations, as "Shaun" lists.
Ann consistently refers to Neatishead as her place of birth but looking thru the original registers I failed to find her baptism although there were a few "Harrington"s shown.
Also I have not found James in either the 1861,71,81 and later, so did James die early & when/where or did they split up - we shall probably never know.
To Ian Nelson - I only a few "Gooch"s in my tree most of whom came from Norfolk but there is a smaller group I have in Suffolk.
Once again many thanks and I wish all an enjoyable and prosperous new year.

Happy New Year to all.

His brother George Carver Gooch went to America with his family, could James have gone as well but Ann did not want to go?
-
Ann was slightly older than James could she have been a widow when and if they married?
Judging by 1851 census they "married" about about 1845 and Ann would have been 26/27 in age she is older in later census so possibly 28/29.
I would get the marriage certificate for William Gooch to Ann Harrington 1843 and see if it's a transcription error.
