Is it possible to search birth records just using fathers name?
Wartime romance, sadly the father was pilot killed in WW2 before daughter was born.
Know fathers full names.
Don’t know mother other than “Peggy”. Not married.
Don’t know daughters name.
Is it possible to search birth records just using fathers name?
Have info on father which would be of great interest to daughter or girlfriend if still alive.
Thanks

A supposition on my part - if the father was present at the birth registration, then he will be named. If not, then the child will only be registered with the surname of the mother. Sorry
ADDED:
Assuming this happened in England/Wales.

Many thanks
Sadly, he had been shot down by the time of his daughters birth.
Thanks for the reply

Had he had time to make an alteration to his will?
(I am assuming, since you seem to be coming at this from his side of the family that he knew of the pregnancy).

In a similar vein to mckha489's post (I got a red warning), have you looked through all of the man's service records? I've come across a very similar situation, and as my man was Australian (but serving in the UK) the records were easily available and quite extensive, and they provided the clues I needed.
In my case there was an abstract of his will which named a woman to whom any outstanding pay should be sent, and eventually I discovered that he was almost certainly father of her son. In fact the son's name was another clue: my chap had a fairly unusual forename, and the son was given this as a middle name. Would there be any chance of something similar for you? At FreeBMD you can search with just forenames or middle names.
