Is there any information to suggest John's parents being Gypsies or Travellers?

The reason I say that is because there were members of the community using Ayres and also Parker and I notice carol46 has Boswell, another Traveller surname, in her surname list so just to try rule them out in this instance.

Other spellings of John's surname to look for include Eyres, Airs, Aires, Aries and Hare

When Eliza married in 1880 she married as Aris.

She had an illegitimate son George in 1867 & his birth was registered as Aris

Felix Parker jnr b 1880 - mmn Aris

1851 - surname is Aris.  Daughter Emma died 1855 aged 5 - surname Aris

Felix & Eliza were living together in 1871

Hi, I have done a lot of research on this family (John Ayris and Elizabeth Timms were my 4 x great grandparents!).

John was indeed bapt. in Bicester in 1811 - his parents were William Ayris (a blacksmith) and Ann Tanner.

William was bapt. 1787 in Marsh Gibbon - son of John Ayris and Rebecca Hawkins. John must have died before 1812, as that is when his widow Rebecca married a man called John Cater/Cator. The 1841 census threw me off a little, as she is recorded as an Ayris, but it is definitely the same woman. Rebecca died in Marsh Gibbon in 1854 (I have her death cert).

Rebecca was probably bapt. 1767 in Marsh Gibbon - daughter of John Hawkins and Ann Lambourne, although I am still in the process of verifying this.

John may have been bapt. 1763 in Ludgershall, but I am uncertain. I contacted Bucks FHS in search of a burial record, but none exists. Some trees have him as being bapt. in Ambrosden, but this was a different John.

Going back to William Ayris - he died in Bicester in 1859. His wife Ann died in Bicester in 1853. She wasn't actually the same Ann that was buried in Hethe - I found her actual burial record by purchasing the full transcripts of Bicester Parish Registers (she was buried in Bicester).

Ann Tanner was bapt. 1781 in Bicester (her surname has been mistranscribed as 'Tenner'). Her parents were Edward Tanner and Mary Hicks. Following Mary Hicks' death, Edward remarried to a Mary Heritage.

I am happy to send you certificates and more info etc. if we are allowed to exchange email addresses?

Hope this helps! 😊 I also have two photos of Eliza Ayris (daughter of John Ayris and Elizabeth Timms) and various other photos and certificates connected to the family, if you're interested.
