From GRO, MMN Savidge
-
Believe this to be her birth registration, going by her age on various census and place of birth. Looka as though she was illegitimate.

Between 1860-1870 there are only 2 Basford reg district births (Costock)
1. 1864 No mmn
2. 1868 mmn Robinson
Possible marriage of no. 2's parents
Marriages Sep 1864
DEXTER William Radford 7b 206
ROBINSON Eliza Radford 7b 206
William is named as Sarah's father on marriage cert
There is also a marriage of a Sarah Ann Dexter (22)to William Truman 29th May 1887 Basford. No father is recorded on this marriage for Sarah so she may well be the No. 1 above without a mmn.

I couldn't find a birth entry on GRO indexes for the grandson George Dexter from 1871 census born c 1864 Basford ??? I wonder if he was born to Eliza Robinson before her marriage to William Dexter Aug 1864

I have th right marriage certificate for Sarah to John Bonam in 1888
So she is living with her husband as Sarah Bonam in 1891 and 1911 and as mentioned the census says born in costock. Seems there might be 2 Sarah Ann Dexter. As mentioned by someone. If she is illegitimate that might explain living with grandparents in 1871.
-
Think 1858 is too early and in Basford. Marriage in 1888 says she is 23. Which makes it 1865
-
Are there 2 Sarah Ann Dexter on that census in 1871. That could be the 2 born 1864 and 1868
-
Are there 2 Sarah Ann Dexter on that census in 1871. That could be the 2 born 1864 and 1868
1871 census Nelson Street, only gives the initial 'A' for Sarah Dexter age 7 (born 1864 Basford) and Sarah Ann Dexter age 3 (born 1868 Basford)
1881 census 24 Nelson Street only one Sarah A Dexter age 16 (1865 Basford), occ Lace Dresser with her grandmother Sarah
Sarah A Dexter age 22 born (1869 Basford) appears to be on 1891 census with her parents William & Eliza (nee Robinson) living Bailey Street
-
There is this marriage in Basford
Sarah Ann Dexter Age:22 (born c 1865) married 29 May 1887 Basford, St. Leodegarius, Nottinghamshire
Spouse: William Truman age 23 Blacksmith father Edmund, engine fitter
Her father's name has been left blank
Edit to add - sorry John missed that you had already posted the above ::)
-
Really confused now
So I have 1871 census showing with parents and grandmother. But following that through she is still living with them in 1891 and 1901. Can’t be as married
Also I have a Sarah Ann Dexter living with grand parents in 1871 in costock. No way of knowing?
Unless that one is the 1864 illegitimate child and the one with parents and grand parents is the Robinson mmn

1888 Sarah Ann Dexter age 23 (1865), no occupation, 3 Cowan Street
married John Bonam his father was also named William and both deceased
Witnesses Reuben & Sarah Griffin
There's a Reuben & Sarah Griffin on 1891 census, a child named Reuben age 3 his mmn Bonam
If Sarah was daughter of William & Eliza nee Robinson he was still alive
If Sarah was an illegitimate child did she just give the same father’s name as John Bonam :-\ and is she the Sarah on the 1871 census posted by Rosie - possible mother Ann Dexter ???
-
There is also this birth entry on GRO indexes - mmn blank
Sarah Ann DEXTER -
GRO Reference: 1866 J Quarter in LOUGHBOROUGH Volume 07A Page 131
Loughbro' is an alternative name for Loughborough and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire
Costock is in the registration district for Loughborough
-
Hi ladyhawk, my head hurts today in more ways than one.
Are we of the thought that one of the Sarah Ann Dexter's either born 1864 or 1868 Basford (Costock) is the Sarah who married 1888. It would seem it is not the one born 1868 with mmn Robinson as 1891 census shows she is still with her parents.
Is this a silly scenario?
The Sarah Ann who married William Truman in 1887 with no father recorded went on to marry John Bonam in 1888. I can find no evidence of any Truman/Dexter births after 1887 or William/Sarah after their marriage.

Hi John, I seem to be going back and forth with this one ??? ???
Re the registration districts from FreeBMD
Basford
Costock Nottinghamshire from 1937 to 1974 See Table 2, note (w).
Loughborough
Costock Nottinghamshire from 1837 to 1936 See Table 2, note (e).
Sarah Ann Bonam nee Dexter born Costock c 1866 on the censuses I think her birth would be the one registered in Loughborough
There is another SAD birth registered in Loughborough but year is 1861 mmn TIVEY
-
I should have spotted the reg district for Basford (Costock) being from 1937-74. Puts a whole new light being Loughborough.

I can find no evidence of any Truman/Dexter births after 1887 or William/Sarah after their marriage.
William & Sarah Truman are on 1901 census living 14, Vincent Terrace, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
William Truman Head 1864 Nightwatchman Grantham, Lincolnshire
Sarah A Wife 1865 Lace dresser Nottinghamshire
Clara Truman Dau. 1894 Nottinghamshire >>>>> mmn DEXTER
William E(Edmund) Truman Son 1896 Nottinghamshire >>>>> mmn DEXTER
Esther Truman Mother 1828 Nottinghamshire
Edit to add
1911 census the Truman family are living 3 Gladstone Terrace Nottingham
Sarah Ann Truman 1864 Lace dresser Basford Nottm
Perhaps this is her birth entry

I can't be 100% certain but going back to the 1871 census with the two Sarah Dexter's with their grandmother Sarah Dexter - it's possible that two of her children named their daughters Sarah Ann.
Sarah A Dexter age 7 (1864) - could be a possible illegitimate daughter of either Eliza or Elizabeth Dexter (daughters of John Dexter & Sarah) you would need her b/c to verify

Both Eliza and Elizabeth married in 1867 father John Dexter
Elizabeth Dexter married John WARD one witness Eliza Dexter
Eliza Dexter married John WILSON witnesses John & Elizabeth WARD
and on 1881 census Sarah Dexter has Dexter and Ward grandchildren with her ( so wondering if Sarah is daughter of Elizabeth Dexter who married John Ward rather than Eliza - just speculation
24, Nelson Street, Basford, Nottinghamshire
Sarah Dexter Head Widow 1802 Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

Sarah J Ward Grand daughter 1871 Basford
Frank Ward Grand son 1873 Scholar Basford
George Holroyd Grand son 1874 Scholar Basford (son of William & Jane nee Dexter bn 1852)
It's possible that Sarah A Dexter born c 1864 was the one that married William Truman her pob matches on censuses as does her occupation, although no occupation given on her 1887 m/c
Sarah Ann Dexter age 3 (1868) - daughter of William & Eliza nee Robinson
her birth reg

I am going to be counting Sarah Ann Dexter's tonight instead of sheep ;D

-
Again can’t be 100% certain but this looks to confirm the Sarah Ann Dexter who married William Truman she is probably related to Sarah Dexter from the 1881 census details posted
I couldn’t find her and William Truman on 1891 census but it looks as if her name is written as Susan, with her are a Sarah WARD & George HOLROYD.
