Title: The Malvoz family
Post by: fletch001 on Friday 19 May 23 07:39 BST (UK)
Good Morning All,
Just asking if someone can help me find this lady who is in my family tree. Details i have are below;

Andree Irene Marie Malvoz born around 1923 in Reims, Marne, Champagne-Ardenne, France. Her parents originally came from Belgium and were said to be a Count & Countess.

Andree married Alfred John Peakman in Kensington,London April 1956, it would be great to find out who her mother & father were. Alfred died in 1982 Fontaine, Nice, France.

Many thanks for your time and help in this matter
Kind Regards
Mike

Now that you know where she died you can ask for her death certificate . Contact the mairie de Biarritz ( by mail :etatcivil@biarritz.fr because you won't be able to use service public.fr), tell you don't know the precise date of death , that she was buried in the Sabaou cemetery in the sixties , they will check the decennial tables.
I'll let you know if I find her birth.

Joger,
Thank you, I have heard from one of her relatives she was tortured by the Nazi's due to running messages for the French Resistance and due to being tortured, could not have children. Not sure if this is true or not.

Regards
Mike

Had a look for a birth certificate for her but the Marne Archives only go up to 1902 online, unfortunately.

The digitized registers go to 1902 , but the  registers up to 1922 can be read at the archives of Marne department.

I have asked for help on a french forum but the answer I have till now is : how do you know she was born in Reims ?

They won't go further if the pob isn't Reims for sure.

Hello All,
Not sure about her DOB being in Reims, it was just what i was told by one of her relatives. Further investigation from the same relative is that Andree's father was;

Theodore Joseph Ghislain Malvoz and her mother Rosalie Therese Houppermans, both from Belgium (not sure about this either) then moved to France. Also Andree had a little brother who died around 12 yrs old in Belgium.

Regards
Mike

One could try to find them in the 1936 census but it is a fastidious task (no indexation , Reims is a big town)

1931+75 = 2006
Anybody can ask for the marriage certificate at the Reims Mairie.

But we are not sure about the pob of Andrée.

All,
Thank you for all your searches, my relative is not sure at all about Andree, it is just snippets of information she can remember other relatives telling her when she was young, so anything could be possible for DoB, DoD, marriage etc.

I have managed to find a family tree also so i am having a look to see what i can find.
Thanks again and i will keep this open just in case i need more help.

Regards
Mike

Andrée Irène Marie's death was registered at the British Consulate in Bordeaux. She's listed as: PEAKMAN, Andrée I. M.

You should be able to get a copy from the GRO.

It's listed in the Index to Consular Deaths 1961-65.
It shows that she was born in 1923 and died at the age of 38.

Volume 55

I've just looked online and there's a gap in the dates you can input, to order a death certificate, so you might have to order by speaking to someone or writing to them?

Add: Oops that can't be her as she would have been too young to marry on the date you gave!

I thought Mike said she married in 1956? Then that would fit nicely.
Or have I misunderstood something? (More than possible!  :D)

All,
Thank you for all your help so far.

Andree married in 1956 to Alfred John Peakman, this was his second marriage. I have managed to trace the Malvoz family back to the 1600's thanks to a FT on Geneanet, i have also messaged the owner for any help.

The question is were the Malvoz family in Belgium related to the Royal family? According to my relative some of the Malvoz family were Count & Countess. Not sure about this either.

Go to this site :
Diplomacie.belgium.be
Choose English in the languages and read the Faq about nobility and the following subjects

"Noblesse belge " in wikipedia is full of answers  too.

Note that you have to be a belgian in order to ask for a recognation of nobility at the council of nobility and that you have to prove everything by yourself.
Moreover ,being a noble does not mean that one is related to the king or queen of Belgium.

One can have a noble amongst one's relatives and not being a noble himself.

Etc...

ADDED: in Wikipedia : "liste des familles comtemporaines de la noblesse belge "
I see no Malvoz
