Hi,
When my 3x great grandparents married in Kilwinning on 13 Sept 1823 the OPR states my 3x great grandfather James Allison 1803-1875 a cotton weaver was described as of Kilwinning and his bride Margaret Dewar c1804-died between 1843-1859 (also given as Duart in some documents). Try as I might I can’t find any trace of her baptism or family in Dalry. Nor have I found any conclusive death for her. I believe I have found James’ death in the Cunningham Combination Poor House, Irvine District.
Any help would be appreciated.

1851 census shows her b 1803 Largs Ayrshire. Family were living in Lanarkshire in 1851
Are you sure you have the right surname for Margaret? The birth registrations for daughters Agnes & Margaret in Bothwell show Margaret's maiden name as Ninnian
Son Thomas was b Renfrew 1832 & Margaret's surname is Ninians
Son Archibald also b Renfrew 1827 - mmn Ninian
Death reg for son Archibald in 1886 shows mmn as Ninian
his bride Margaret Dewar c1804-died between 1843-1859

Alive and well in both 1851 & 1861 but appears to be widowed in 1861 so your date of death for James cannot be 1875 - he died 1859. Margaret is 60 in 1861 but still shown as b Largs
The marriage to Margaret Dewer was 1823 but there is another James Allison marriage on
12.9.1823 but in Dalry - brides name only shown as Margaret - no surname

A tree has a copy of death certificate 1874 he was a widower

Too many James & Margaret Allison's!! The James I found was b Dalry.

I can see now it's your tree and you have Him on the 1851 census on his own with his 2 daughters Margaret and Agness

Thank you for the amount of work you have done Carole but yes, I do have the right James Allison and Margaret.
Margaret’s surname is given as Dewer in the Kilwinning marriage and also in the baptisms of their children (in Kilwinning) and also in Agnes’ marriage in Bailliestone in 1857. I was also able to find the Dalry marriage on 12 Sept 1823 you mention and you’re right in that there is no surname for the bride. I wonder if it’s possible that both ceremonies could be for the same couple in separate churches for some reason?
All the census entries I found for James (1851, 1861, 1871) have him born Kilwinning although he’s moved around a bit and the 1841 doesn’t allow for a specific birthplace.
The couple had two daughters called Agnes as the first died in infancy and the name was recycled for the one you found Rosie, (thanks to you too for the work you’ve put in) which was my 2xgreat grandmother. The reason I give the date ranges for Margaret Dewar’s death is that their last child was born in 1843 but she is absent from subsequent censuses, however, she is not described as deceased at Agnes’ marriage in 1857.
Thanks for pointing that out Neale. You are of course right… I shall have to amend that straight away.
In view of what you directed me to Neale I’m revising Margaret Dewar’s date of death to 1843-1851 as James is a widower in the 1851 census. Thank you!

I can only see one possible single entry in the OPRs for births in Dalry in the time frame you are looking at for Margaret's birth. Different variant on the spelling for the surname? Sometimes also can show as Dewart etc:
