Hi, I have for many years trying to get as much information surrounding this ship.
My Great Grandfather, John Campbell, was the master.
I have a copy of the crew list which I obtained from UK National Archives which mentions, and I quote " wrecked on Barbuda Island on 2 Jany 1867" unquote.
The logbook was lost during the shipwreck however, this crew list was received by the Shipping Master at Liverpool 27 September 1867 and was signed by John. So, they must have returned sometime in September 1867. I've been going through newspapers to locate any articles relating to
this but I have not had any luck.
I did have information that the ship struck the North Reef of Barbuda on 1 January 1867 however, I have lost this information. Very sorry.
I do have information from the Liverpool Mercury February 25, 1867, that states she was wrecked off Bermuda. Her crew were saved and are on board the R.M.C. steamer Conway which had arrived at Port Royal. The West Indies At Jamaica.
I cannot locate any information on the Conway, or any information on how they got back to Liverpool, or in what condition they were in.
In 2021 I contacted the Antigua and Barbuda National Archives to see if they could help, unfortunately, they could not locate any details of the shipwreck. I also wanted to know if John had died there, as I thought he may have returned there. If so, was there any records.
They messaged St Kitts Archives for any information, unfortunately, there has been no
reply. This was during COVID, but I will follow-up with them.
I am very sorry to be so long winded, but I do not have any details on John after his returned to England, except he appeared on the UK 1871 census along with his family.
It has been a monumental task to get this far, and time is running out to give John his fitting final closure.

Noticed she sailed from Cardiff late October so checked Welsh newspapers. A brief mention of the loss - mid col 4.

Lloyds Register 1867 lists only a Conway Castle. A Conway Castle, built 1866, sailed 2 Jan from Liverpool for Lima.
No Conway or Conway Castle listed in the 1866 Register.

Noticed the Conway is a steamship.
In Lloyds register the Conway Castle is identified by "S" only. The explanation of abbreviations has "S = Ship". Steamers are identified by "Stm or Scw"
Should have checked with you of the significance of "R.M.C"?

I would like to thank everyone for their replies.
In a previous post I mentioned a Vessel RMC Conway. Her name was RMS Conway, and I am currently trying to locate her details regarding the repatriation of the crew from my Great Grandfather's shipwreck.
I do know that she was built in 1846 and the builders were William Pitcher, Northfleet England.
She served in the West Indies carrying mail and passengers between the West Indies, UK and US during 1846 to 1867.
She was destroyed in St. Thomas US Virgin Islands in October 1867 and scrapped in 1870.
On another issue, would there have been an inquiry on the shipwreck of this British ship?
If so, where would that have been held, what records would there be and where can I request copies?

If you are wanting to account for John Campbell after the 1867 shipwreck, and you have located him the 1871 census, it would be useful to identify the entry in the 1871 census.
Can you describe the census entry that you see.
