Title: Thomas BURNAND, born 1826 (?), Whitby
Post by: BAC3 on Tuesday 11 July 23 15:40 BST (UK)

Hello,

Thomas BURNAND ("of full age") married Mary Ann SMITH on 30/08/1846 in St. Mary the Virgin, Whitby.

Is anyone able to confirm his exact age, or date of birth.......I believe his parents were Thomas Alfred BURNAND and Elizabeth (nee MILLER)?

Thank you

Baptism at Stokesley 26 Feb 1809 Thomas son of Francis BURNARD, miller.
See 1871 census and 1837 marriage to Sarah WILKINSON when Thomas was living at Larpool Mill.

Good Morning,

Thank you for trying to help.   Sadly, it appears full marriage details of Thomas BURNAND born 1826 remain elusive.

Do you want to find out about the man married in 1846 or a man born in 1826?
In my experience when a person said they were of full age when they married it meant they were well past the age of 21. Or sometimes less tan 21.

I am trying to ascertain if Thomas BURNAND born 1826 (?) was possibly the same Thomas BURNAND married in 1846 by discovering what the "full age" actually was.

I do not understand what you mean by born 1826 (?). Do you mean he was born close to 1826 or he was born 1846 plus or minus ten or twenty or even fifty years.
Why do you think there was a man of that name born at that time or anywhere near.
Why not just buy the marriage certificate?

Why do you think his parents are Thomas Alfred BURNARD and Elizabeth?

In the 1861 census Thomas and Mary Ann have a 13 years old daughter called Harriet and you can see at her birth her mmn was Smith.
So probably them and Thomas was lying as he was born in abt 1828 and Mary Ann was About 9 years older than him.

Marriage Whitby NRY 20th December 1826
Thomas Burnand bachelor and Miller of this parish to Elizabeth Miller spinster of this parish by consent of parents. Witnesses Francis Burnand, John Vickers, Margaret Ann ( hard to read possibly Henry )

There is a baptism of a son Thomas Miller to an Elizabeth Miller at Whitby
8 march 1826.
As this is a baptism he could have been born a few months prior to this date . Perhaps this is the Thomas of full age married in August 1846, and aged 33 on the 1861 census. He may not have been exactly sure of his age.

Thank you for this information.

It helped me uncover a Public Member Tree for Harriet Miller BURNAND that confirmed her father Thomas BURNAND married her mother Mary Ann SMITH on the 10th August 1846, aged 20 and 28 respectively.

I would not take any tree on Ancestry as proof of anything.
Why do you refer to her as Harriet Miller BURNARD?
Birth q4 1847 Harriet Savage BURNARD mmn SMITH Whitby 24 531.
Baptism 17 Nov 1847 Harriet Savage BURNNARD to Thomas and Mary.
