Hello
Does anyone have any more information on William Jamieson, spirit merchant, born Ireland around 1822. The 1861 and 1871 census index shows Dalry, Ayrshire but the address details show Laigh Auchengree, Kilbirnie Station.
I am wanting to know the name of his parents and county of birth in Ireland.
Thanks

Was he married? If so the marriage certificate should have parent information.
Maybe his death record would too.

Hello
He was unmarried and it is a speculative one as to whether he is related where the death record is too expensive on SP with their credit system.

...where the death record is too expensive on SP with their credit system.
???
It's only £1.50 per record (6 credits).
Cheaper than GRO(E/W) and GRONI.

It makes you pay for 30 credits though which I don't need and I have wasted a lot of money on this website in the past. Why they can't have had a monthly subscription like other sites.

I'm afraid to access William Jamieson's death certificate to see what information has been given by the informant of his death, someone has to buy credits.
His death certificate, may have his parents' names recorded, if the informant knew that info.
Looby :)

The GRO in England and Wales doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs £6.00
GRONI in Northern Ireland doesn't have a subscription system, and IIRC a certificate costs £2.50
New South Wales doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs AUS$35
Victoria doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs AUS$22
Queensland doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs AUS$54.40
Western Australia doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs AUS$36.00
New Zealand doesn't have a subscription system, and a certificate costs NZ$25.00
Manitoba doesn't have a a subscription system, and a certificate costs CAN$30.00
None of the subscription sites holds a full set of certificates for all these places, and in fact there are relatively few places that make their BDM records freely available online - Republic of Ireland, British Columbia, Ontario and one US state, I forget which, are the only ones of which I am aware.
30 credits on SP will cost less than one certificate from most of these places, and you will still have enough credits to get another 4 certificates or original census records.
Furthermore, Scottish certificates are far more informative than English, Welsh or Irish ones because they normally tell you the full names of the parents of the deceased including the deceased's mother's maiden name. So in spite of being cheaper they are much better value for money.
And you don't need to wait for the information to arrive later or by post - you get it then and there.

Have you tried this death certificate?
JAMIESON WILLIAM age 49
M 1871 587 / 143
DALRY (AYR)
Have you considered looking at William’s siblings?
There appears to be a sister – Housekeeper for her brother William in the 1861 census
Sarah Jameison who married Robert Riddet in 1849 Kilbirnie
There is also a brother named Thomas who is with him in the 1851 census

Hello. Yes I have looked at these before and have hit dead ends unfortunately. I have found nothing on Thomas after 1851. Robert, Sarah and children Sarah Watson and William Riddett were in Dalry parish on the 1851 census. Robert was a grocer and spirit dealer. It is Sarah's daughter Sarah Watson and Robert's sister Mary Riddett with William Jamieson on the 1861 census. Robert, Sarah and William may have died pre 1855 and William has taken over the business or they have emigrated.
I have had cases like this before where the death certificate just show blanks for the parents names as there is no no one left that knows the information, which is another reason why I didn't want to risk paying again.

Sarah Jamieson's children were in the Dalry & Kilbirnie area until they died. Robert Riddet looks to have died in 1876. Sarah Jamieson/Riddet probably died pre. 1855. They were all alive and in the area when William Jamieson died - good possibility one of them was the informant on his death cerificate.
RIDDET WILLIAM 24 JAMIESON M 1874 596 / 83 KILBIRNIE
RIDDET SARAH 31 JAMIESON F 1878 587 / 112 DALRY (AYR)
RIDDET ROBERT 75 BIGGART M 1876 587 / 61 DALRY (AYR)
Looby :)

That is a different Robert Riddet but I have paid for the William Jamieson death certificate anyway and it is not the family that I am looking for so a waste of money unfortunately. As I said it was a speculative one.
