Hi. Hope you can help me.
I'm looking for a Leonard j elphick born 1896 in chertsey and was in the armed forces . His son, James h elphick was born in Egypt when stationed there in 1926.
Leonard had a brother Thomas born 1899 chertsey and was also in the forces.
I know it's a big ask but I would be so grateful for any information on Leonard j elphick or his son James h elphick.
Thank you .

Have you looked on census for Leonard? He can be found with parents (baptism 18 Nov 1896 confirms names)
Thomas & Emily.
1901 Chertsey
Thomas Elphick 74 head jobbing gardener
Emily 40 wife
Thomas H 8 son
Frederick W 6 son
Leonard J 5 son

In 1911 Leonard is in "the school of handecrafts for poor boys" in Chertsey aged 14 as a carpenter pupil.

Thank you for your reply. I saw this entry earlier today but It's any military information that he or his son may of had.
It seems Leonard may of followed his brother Thomas in to the armed forces as things at home loomed very bleak.
Thanks again.
Now that's interesting. Thank you .

This link gives limited details for WW1, https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D3470690
but as he served after 1921 his records are not freely available, but are in the process of being transferref from the MOD to the National Archives.

If that's him his army file will either be with the MoD or transferred to National Archives. Suggest you start with the MoD:

I did look at the national archives and as you say his records aren't freely available. Hopefully they might be soon .

Whether or not they'll be available soon from the National Archives, I very much doubt that they'll be free :(

That's really interesting. I will pop in to our local library during the week and have a look on ancestry. I live miles away from the nearest town so have to pick my moment . Thanks again .
