Title: Family of Roy A Summers
Post by: Drobs on Thursday 10 August 23 09:24 BST (UK)
Dear Listers
I' trying to locate the family of Roy Summers who was born in Bristol 20/1/30
Roy married Eileen Brown Dec 1954 in Bilston.
Eileen was born 3/9/1931 in Wolverhampton and I think her mother's name was Flukes.
Believe Roy's mothers' maiden name was Hazell.
Trying to find out who his parents and grandparents were and where they got married and lived.
Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks
Drobbo

Hi Drobbo  :) ,

Is anyone you've named in your post still living? If they are, or if you don't know  - you post needs to be amended to remove their names and birth details , as it's against Rootschat rules (security & privacy).

You can find his birth registration here (need to register - bur free to search after that - and you will confirm his middle name.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp#Results

Then search here, confirm his mother's maiden name:
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

You'll also be able to confirm 2 siblings names on FreeBMD.

Have you any idea at all of his parents names - SUMMERS - HAZELL -  or any details of them at all?

Cheers
AMBLY

Hello again Ambly
Sorry I don't have names at this stage of the parents or grandparents - was thinking of looking at census for 1931 to see if this will help but then realised they were lost or destroyed in the war.

His full name was Roy Aland Summers mmn Hazell and there is this marriage of likely parents.
1926 Ashton, Somerset
Harold Summers & Christine D K Hazell
Newspaper announcement (free search only) give his name as Harold Aland Summers
Western Daily Press 26th June 1926
There is also a likely brother A J born 1935 and with Harold and Christine on the 1939 Register.
Possible death in 2016 for brother but not certain. Also maybe closed records in 1939, I only have free search.

Thank you again for your help
Is it easy to trace the Summers family line back further via BMD and Census records?
I don't have access to Ancestry or Find My Past and not sure how you go about this?

Hi - I've got access to Ancestry for a trial and managed to locate the relevant census records back to 1841. Does the Gloucester OPC site enable searching back before census records began? I have a William Summers (aged 30) for instance in 1841 married to Elizar (25) living in Bremhill. Interested to see if the line can go back further - baptism, marriage records perhaps?

Frederick Summers (father of Harold) in 1881

All children have mmn Jotham or Lotham
Marriage of Henry & Eliza

I would suggest getting a free account with FindMyPast if you don't have one. You can find out quite a bit for free. If you build a tree on Ancestry you will still be able to access it after your trial. Remember to download any images before time is up.
The 1921 census I posted in reply 9, there is an Edward E Hall with the family. I think he may be Emanuel Hale, father of Alice Matilda Hale (mother Of Christine Hazell) He is Edward or Edward E on some census entries and there is this death.
Edward Emanuel Hale 96
June 1934 Long Ashton

The Glos OPC site will certainly help with searching before 1837, but not so much in this case as Bremhill is in Wiltshire :)

William and Eliza have two children born after 1837 so the first thing to try is their birth certificates. The GRO's online index shows them both, with mother's maiden name Rivers. The eldest child is 8 so you want to look for a marriage 9 or 10 years earlier. The Wiltshire OPC does have registers for Bremhill so you can look there, but while you have access to Ancestry that's easier and gives you an image of the record as well. William Summers, of Bremhill,  married Eliza Rivers from Seend at Bremhill on 20 Oct 1832.

Ancestry also has over a hundred member's trees that include William and family. You can ignore them if you want the fun of doing it all yourself. If you do use them, bear in mind that they are invariably full of mistakes, double check everything.

Happy hunting
David
