Hi. I am in Devon tracing a Devon sea faring man called Robert Coysh b.1749 but my gut feeling is that after the end of his career at sea he got married in Middlesex in 1803. He disappears from Devon records in 1803 when his ship went aground in Margate but in 1803 a Robert Coysh married Mary Watts in Middlesex and I think it's him
The marriage was in St James, Paddington on June 22 1803 but I can't find any information about him or Mary. Both were widows and my Robert would have been about 54 in 1803. I am hoping that someone knows about either of them, the marriage record doesn't give any idea of their ages or professions so I may be chasing the wrong man but I live in hope.
His Devon family were in Topsham in East Devon and a Robert Coysh was buried there in 1826 and a Mary Coysh in 1827. I think they must be the same people but it's too early for death certificates.
Any help or advice would be great.

The marriage was by Licence, and it might be possible to locate the Bond and Allegation which should indicates ages, at least. Unfortunately, I can't readily see a record location.

It was an Archbishop of Canterbury’s licence, issued on 21 June 1803 through the Faculty Office. You can order a copy of the allegation (£15.00) from the Society of Genealogists’ microfilm, using this link

It’s not likely to tell you a great deal, since the marriage register shows that both parties were widowed and therefore won’t have required parental permission to marry. Mary was of Wanstead, Essex, which probably explains why the licence was needed, as she was marrying out of parish (in Paddington).

Wow, this is brilliant. I think it's worth a punt on £15 to try and solve this mystery, I don't have an LDS near me so that is the best bet.
