Hello, could anyone be able to tell me anything that might help me find out this unit patch on the arm of the battledress
-
Could you post the original without the colour please. Are you sure that he was in the RAF or are you just trusting the colour App.

That is the other post I put in the forum for the area that he was from, I put it here as well because of military connections

Both posts are asking the same question. Military identification is much better on this board - lots of experts

Yes I know I asked the same question, the reason I asked the same thing is because someone who he may have served with may be on there instead of this forum, I wanted to cover my tracks :)

Hi,
1. The picture needs to be flipped horizontally - you can see the text on the shoulder flash is back to front. And his button holes are on the 'wrong' side.
2. The badge is described as that worn by 'War Office Controlled Units' - not very helpful to be honest: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30072786
3. The shoulder flash has "R. A" but the rest is missing. It looks like red text on a blue backing - that might help identify the rest of the detail but I can't remember what options that would include. Possibly "R.A.O.C." - Royal Army Ordnance Corps but I am happy to be corrected.
4. The uniform is khaki not blue - so Army, not RAF.
Hope that's of some help.

Yeah I thought it was army I just like adding colour to images, the tunic looks completely different to RAF uniform, I thought it may have been the royal army medical corps but not sure.
And the patch that you said was the war office controlled troops what is that for, sorry for the question

Could the R.A be royal artillery

Hi,
Not RAMC. If you google "R.A.M.C. shoulder flash" you will see it was white lettering on a maroon background. Your photo definitely is not white lettering.
Not R.A. either as you can tell you are seeing only half the flash so there must be a similar (2) letters out of camera shot. Hence why I thought it might be R.A.O.C.
As to War Office Controlled Units, I have no idea but I suspect a Google search will answer that.
Good luck with your research.
