Hi there
I wonder if anyone can help me locate information about William Milligan 1740-1816, married to Janet Lowrie.
Any help would be most welcome 🙏

Have you explored www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk?

Please be clear about what information are you looking for?
I have this family in my tree.

Hi Neale1961
I managed to get back to John Milligan (1702-1787) father of William Milligan (1740-1816) both buried in Lochrutton Cemetery.
Do you happen to have any of their relatives in your tree?
John is my Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather.
Many thanks

Hi Forfarian
Yes I started on scotlandspeople a few years ago.
Managed to add to what I had when I got a DNA test.

Hi,
there is a gravestone at Lochrutton churchyard that relates to your Milligan family.
It is engraved on both sides, on the reverse it states William Milligan who died 2nd Jan'y 1816
aged 75 years. Jannet Laurie his spouse who died 20th Dec'r 1845 aged 89 years.
If you would like full detail send me a P.M. with your email.

Hi Matt
Visited the cemetery yesterday and saw stone.
Was amazing to see it and loved the craft that was in the stone.
As for PM I can't send them as I get a error message. I think it's because I need to make more posts.
I see your in Liverpool?
I know my great great grandfather went from Kirkcudbright to Liverpool. John Milligan who married Nicholas McMurray.

Scottie89 will need to make some more posts before the PM system will work for him.

Yes, John and William are my direct ancestors. The Milligan tree is very large.
You have not said what information you are looking for. :)
-
Did you manage to get further back than John Milligan (1701) ?
Many thanks
-
Hi Scottie. We share Milligan ancestors.
No, I have not been able to go back with any certainty (records of proof) beyond John Milligan (1702-1787) and Margaret McMin.
However, Janet’s Lawrie’s family line can be traced back about another 4 generations.
The Milligan tree (as I have it at this point in time) is extremely large and sprawling – apart from your Liverpool branch, there was another branch went to Maryport Cumbria. Then there are other branches sprawling across the world – USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
That was why I asked you to be specific about what information you were searching for.
I am directly descended from William Milligan’s oldest son, John (1775-1835).
You should have enough posts now to use the PM (personal message) system if you wish to.
