Title: elizabeth goodall b.1793c Streatley, Berks
Post by: ribbo39 on Tuesday 12 December 23 04:43 GMT (UK)
Hi all,
I'm looking for an Elizabeth Goodall (marr. Wm.Blackford 1815 Strealey) bapt. about 1793-5.

In the 1841,51 & 61 censuses she lists Streatley as her place of birt/bapt.

I can't find her using F/Search, Anc..y or FreeReg.
The nearest I can find is an Elizabeth Goodall bapt 1789 in East Hendred some distance from Streatley.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alan

Thank you kindly for that info - much appreciated.

My sub to FindMyPast ceased some time ago and their search doesn't always work with me. Keeps asking
to subscribe!!

Hope I'm not pushing my luck here, but any info on the parents etc??

Thanks again

Alan

Burials

Samuel Goodall age 70 buried Streatley 05 Feb 1832
I think the first Samuel son might have died 1799
And the one born in 1802 buried same year.

Mary Goodall age 76 buried Streatley 02 Sep 1838

I started looking at this post yesterday but got distracted by something else and discovered this morning that it had been answered. i was interested because of the name William Blackford. I have a WB in my tree who married an Elizabeth (don't know her mn).  My WB was bapt in Brightwaltham on 2 Mar 1794 s/o William and Mary.
Looks like my WB and yours are the same person.

Hi LizzieL,

Yes I have a WB bapt.2-3-1794 Brigthwalton s/o William & Mary.
He married Elizabeth Goodall 16-10-1815 Streatley, Berks.
Eliza was bapt. 3-7-1796 Streatley d/o Samuel  & Mary Belcher.

I would say we are talking about the same person, however there are problems with
this family as sometimes they are referred to as Blackford (als Marshall) or Marshall (als Blackford)

Currently I am showing the WB (1794) as being the s/o Wm.Marshall (als Blackford) & Mary (some have listed her as Church)  and she is buried 6-11-1840 Brightwalton.

I think  there has been some confusion along the way ie; mixing families as if they are one family.

I have found a WM.Marshall (als Blackford) marrying Jane Blackford in Brightwalton 18-12-1757 (Jane is bur. 26-5-1795 Sparsholt) (can't be sure this the correct burial)

So far in my tree, I only have a connection by marriage to these Blackfords, but I have recently found a DNA match to someone descended from this Blackford family. Of course I could be connected via another of her lines but the locations of her other branches seems wrong, given our shared matches. so I suspect somewhere I have a Blackford ancestor.
Sounds like it could take some time to sort them out

The William Blackford who married Elizabeth in Streatley appears with her in Brightwaltham on 1851 census, but there is a William Blackford buried at BW in 1849. Age at death gives birth year abt 1795.
The WB, alive and well in 1851 is likely the one buried in BW in 1874 born about 1793.
In 1841 - two William / Elizabeth couples in BW, one William has birth year abt 1791, presumed children Mary and Jesse,
The other William has birth year abt 1796, presumed children Mary, David, Elin (this is the family that connects to mine)

Given that 1841 rounds ages, I think it is the younger of the two that died in 1849, and the one married to EG in Streatley is the older one who died in 1874.

Can't find a widowed Elizabeth in 1851 to go with the William who died in 1849 either, maybe she also died before 1851.

Forget that last bit FindMyPast found me a family in Calne when I tried to search for BW

But there are still two WBs born at similar times according to age at death, buried in BW

I think that Jane is d/o Thomas Blackford and Ann nee Church. They married in BW on 05 Mar 1735/6

Hi LizzieL,

That's what I have recorded re WB & Jane. I also have found Jane's parents Thomas Blackford - m - Ann Church 5-3-1736/7 Brightwalton. Also Ann's  bapt. 11-2-1710/11 East Locking (d/o Thomas & Elizabeth - late Avery).  I could go back further but have stopped at this point.

If you would lilke more please ask.
