Title: Doris Gertrude Youle marriage
Post by: Mansl on Saturday 30 December 23 11:14 GMT (UK)
I have been searching for a marriage between Doris Gertrude Youle and George Thomas Coombes which would have taken place after 1921 and before 1939 when it puts them as married and even her death in 1959. Surely to register death and to get Probate as Doris Gertrude Coombes she would have to be married.

I did find a marriage in 1922 George T Coombes to a Clara E Osborne. The first death for a Clara E Coombes is 1939 in Surrey, so its probably not her. Of course they could have got divorced. If it was the same George T Coombes.

Added Birmingham area.

The original probate was revoked and there was a new grant dated 21 Oct 1965. The entry states
YOULE  or COOMBES Doris Gertrude died 23 Mar 1959 .... Administration 14 December London to Harry Ronald YOULE painter and decorator ( her brother I think ? ). I don't think she married George T COOMBES.

You don’t need to be related or married to a deceased person in order to register their death.

The same applies with regards becoming an administrator to someone’s will.

So if they were not married why was her death registered as Doris Gertrude Coombes and not Doris Gertrude Youle.

They are in the Electoral register living at 56 Heathcliff Road, Acocks Green as Mr and Mrs.

Maybe whoever registered the death presumed  she was married to George Coombes.

It may be worthwhile sending for her death certificate to find out who registered her death.

Baptism - 21 December 1921 - Christ Church, Sparkbrook -

Harry Ronald Youle - son of Harry Roland Youle (Clerk) and Doris Gertrude  - 101 Montgomery Street

Hint from Ancestry suggests a marriage between Harry R Youle and Doris G Woolley - Kings Norton, December quarter 1920.

I can't see a birth registration to fit the 1921 baptism.

Doris's ?first husband Harry Ronald Youle dies in 1957 in Northamptonshire and in 1958 Administration is granted to his widow  - Doris Gertrude Youle.

Doris dies in 1959 and Administration is awarded to George T Coombes.

George dies in 1961 and probate granted to Westminster Bank.

1965 Administration is revoked re Doris's probate/will and awarded to her son Harry Ronald.

Coincidentally in 1965 (on the same page that shows Administration has been revoked re Doris's will) there is an entry for Harry Ronald Youle - died 1957 Northamptonshire - Administration has now been awarded to Harry Ronald Youle, and advising "Former Grant P.R 13th May 1958".

Now the following is purely speculation on my part but I am guessing Harry Youle and Doris never divorced, neither did George T Coombes and his wife Clara Osborne.

So Doris and George lived together as man and wife until their deaths.

Their son Harry R Youle may have been upset that his father had left his estate to Doris, who in turn left her estate to George, so perhaps Harry (junior) decided to challenge both his father and mothers wills rather than his fathers estate ultimately being left to George T Coombes.

That is exactly what I thought. By the way the father was Harry Roland and the son was Harry Ronald, Thank you all. Happy new year.
