I have been dabbling in my family tree for several years and have managed to trace most elements on both sides - except for my paternal great grandmother's family.
My great grandfather (Thomas McAuley 1845-1929) married Elizabeth McCurry (1842-1901) in Derriaghy. Alas, I have been unable to find any useful information at all about the McCurry family, other than info on the marriage certificate that stated her father was called Henry.
Are there any scholars who could please give me a clue?

A couple of months after their marriage, Thomas and Elizabeth McAuley were witnesses to the marriage of a Catherine McCurry to Thomas Wilson, I'm guessing she was Elizabeth's sister:

Think you're right about this death, heywood.
Henry died at Aughnahoe [sic], Derriaghy.

Thanks KG.
Elizabeth’s marriage shows her residence as ‘Anahoe’, I think so that would fit.
It looks as though gaffy has found a sister, too.

Maria McCurry marriage to Robert Refausse - 1875.

A witness is Henry McCurry but can’t be her father, if that death is correct.

Thank you for such fine detective work.
Heywood - I knew about the MC as Thomas McAuley is my great grandfather. I also knew about the DC, but did not want to jump to conclusions without some further evidence.
Great spots regarding further marriages - which will now help enormously.
Gaffy - great spot regarding Thomas and Elizabeth being witnesses.
In the space of 24 hours you have managed to start off a 'happy' new year!

Hi Sporran,
I gathered you must have details of the marriage but posted it, as we often do, for the information of others who might want to help.
As you can see, it often leads to other finds. :)
Good luck with the rest of your searching.

Thank you good folks for your most helpful steer, which has enabled me to find the families of my great grandmothers three sisters.
As an addition I found an entry in the Belfast Newsletter, dated 6 July 1830, announcing the marriage of Henry McCurry of Ballymacash to Sarah Bruce of Drumbeg. Of even more interest was that two of the children of the sisters were given the name Bruce!
My 'win' this week has once again increased my interest in tracing more of my family tree!

Possible death in 1875?

Added: Just to point out that there was the following newspaper piece mentioning a Henry McCurry of Ballymacash in the Belfast Commercial Chronicle of 30 April 1834: On the 16th instant, aged 70 years, of a lingering illness, which she bore with a meekness which the Christian religion can alone inspire, Sarah, wife of Mr. Henry McCurry, of Ballymacash.

Thanks Gaffy.

Gaffy & Heywood,
I am pretty certain the death in 1875 was my great-great grandmother Sarah Bruce because the Maria McCurry named as 'present at death' would most probably have been her daughter Maria. It was only about 2 months before Maria married Robert Refausse! Heywood mentioned a Henry McCurry that could not have been the father! Maybe the Sarah McCurry that died in 1834 was either the mother or an aunt, which could mean that the 'unknown' Henry may have been an uncle!
Since you guys gave me a steer I also found another sister, Jane Bruce McCurry, who married a John Sales (Seales in some documents).

Two of the sisters, Maria & Eleanor, married two brothers - Robert and Samuel Refausse. The Refausse family were quite extensive in the area. I have passed on my findings to some cousins, one of whom lives in Lisburn. He remembers meeting some of the extended family when he was a wee boy and believes that there may be other 'touch points' between our family members.
Thanks again for your help - and patience with a newbie.
