I have John married to Charlotte Boyd in 1851 at Leyton. She is also visiting him on the 1851 census in Bromley, St Leonard.
I have their eight children born between 1852 and 1876.
I know that Charlotte's parents are William and Hannah. She was born in 1831 in Low Leyton, Essex.
I'm not looking for her ancestors as I've done this on another thread: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=880638.0
However. any help going backwards from John would be appreciated.

What's his fathers name & occupation on the 1851 marriage cert?
-
The only 1841 entry in that rough locality was aged 15 & father was William occ Smith

Hi. I haven't got the cert. Doing the tree for a friend, so don't really want to spend out on it 🥺

Looks like John married as Jonathan

Having enlarged this image without going onto the Essex records site (used to have a sub for years but stopped it) it looks like his father is Jonathan ... It says that her father is deceased (he died in 1832) and possibly that his father is too?

Hi there. I did see that one ... But he consistently says on censuses that he was born in Kensington and wondered if Hampstead was too far away? Also, I'm fairly sure (she says while squinting at the enlarged, fuzzy image 🤪) that he gives his father's name as Jonathan? 🤔
-
Yes - looking at it I would say it was Jonathan too
-
Did Charlotte die in June qtr 1883 & Jonathan remarry in Dec 1883 to Annie Tyler? If so - father is shown as John
-
Yes to Charlotte dying and I think yes to Ann Tyler, who was a widow, maiden name Hurt.
-
I wasn't completely sure about that marriage, although I think it fits with censuses etc.
-
Definitely him on the 1891 with wife Anne

Possible rabbit hole. An Ann Merriott of full age married John Davis Kenney 1st August 1852. Her father recorded as John Marriott occ- Painter. One of the witnesses was a Charlotte Marriott-possible sister in law?
1851 census ref--possibly Ann (born Kensington) with a sister Mary A Thorne (born Kensington)

Ooh interesting ... Will check that out 🤔

Nothing's ever simple is it? Cannot find a GRO ref for this marriage to try and establish father's names.

4 October 1846 is the banns date rather than the marriage. It's worth noting that other entries for banns have a cross beside them and a further date at the end, presumably signifying when they actually married (and I can match them in the marriage register). No such info for Charles & Mary Ann. so either they didn;t marry, or they did it elsewhere, despite the page noting all persons registered were of this parish.
