Title: Y chromosome DNA
Post by: Redroger on Friday 08 March 24 19:55 GMT (UK)
My Y chromo DNA test reflects my surname accurately  back until around 1800 (1798):before this I have no-one with my surname who shares my DNA though I have some fairly high grade matches.
Which is most likely,  none testing or extra marital events?

The common atDNA test is generally only considered to be accurate to 6 or 7 generations.

At Great Great Great Grandparent level it is very possible that you could have zero DNA from them.

Look at the chart in the last post in this thread to see how DNA inheritance can be passed down or not.  Each persons chart will be unique to them, this is just the chart of the person who wrote the article which included their own chart.

BTW my own 111 yDNA test has zero matches with my family name and plenty of surname variations, its the luck of the draw.
