Title: Whatever happened to Albert Charles Truslove
Post by: Stuart_McDonald on Thursday 14 March 24 07:36 GMT (UK)
Hi
I am trying to trace Albert Charles Truslove who was born at Midland Junction, Western Australia in 1918.  He was a son of Charles Leslie Truslove and Gertrude Ellen Canlon/Scanlon.  His parents separated and died in 1957 (WA) and 1959 (VIC) respectively.  Known as Bert, he married Winifred Flanagan in WA in 1942 and seems to disappear from records and newspapers around 1946.  He was a serving police officer and an amateur boxer.  I can last locate him on an electoral roll in 1943 living with his wife in WA.  His wife is locatable on rolls without Bert up until the mid 1960s when she either remarried or changed her name, she passed away in 1992 in Victoria.
But what happened to Bert?  Can anyone offer suggestions where else to search?  I've looked at the obvious online resources.
Many thanks
Stuart McDonald, York WA

From Trove.nla.gov.au  WA newspapers, the following references to Bert Truslove:

10 July 1952  Floral tributes to funeral at Keendenup from Bert and Ruby Truslove and family
April1953 Oct 1953 Mt Barker   ditto floral tributes                  ditto

So who is Ruby?

Apologies: Ruby Truslove d 2006 Memorial says wife of HERBERT. So no connection?

That Bert is named Herbert. I looked at him last night.
I cannot remember the details, but am sure it’s a different man. (He’s a farmer)

Probably no help but Trove has him on a transfer to Boulder in October 1943.

From Perth Mirror, 30 October 1943
Boxer For Boulder
PC Bert Truslove, of Vic. Park, former crack middleweight boxer, left last night for Boulder on transfer.
He should be welcome in sporting circles on the Goldfields as he is a clever boxer and skipping artist.

Thanks Judith, secondary sets of eyes are always welcome.  He's slow progress, I mean his name is not that common, but my last positive sighting is 1946.
Thanks again, Stuart

It is possible to search the electoral rolls for Boulder online thru Ancestry.com.au. but you need to know his exact address to get the correct division as they are not indexed. I've done a few no success so will keep going.

Perhaps you could contact the WA Police Historical Society as 1961 TRUSLOVE, A C (Albert Charles TRUSLOVE) is listed.

They also have a facebook page.

1949 Kendenup, WA has mention of him playing football.

Some of the "marrieds" taking part were old-timers Orm Smith', Ted Duff, Jim Bunker, Bert Truslove and Roy Dix, who last played seventeen years ago.

I think the Kenderup Bert is Herbert. Could be wrong.

Thank you, but this Bert Truslove is Herbert "Bert"  Walter Truslove and not Albert "Bert" Charles Truslove.....but thanks for looking.

Roy Clarence and  Winifred Anne BUTTRESS lived at 28 Geelong Road, Barwon Heads, VIC.

Winifred Anne (nee Flanagan, formerly Truslove) probably married Roy Clarence BUTTRESS before 1985.
She is gazetted on her retirement from the Public Service 6 Sept, 1985 under that name.

Roy Clarence BUTTRESS age 98yrs died 28 Jan 2023.
He was previously married in 1952 and divorced by 1961 when his ex-wife remarried.

Thanks for the details, I can place Winifred Flanagan Truslove Buttress still in WA in 1963, and it is likely her marriage to Albert "Bert" Charles Truslove was over for whatever reason by 1948 as I've found a death notice signed off as "Win and D******* Truslove" with no reference to Albert/Bert.
His mother Gertrude Truslove died in Caulfield Vic in 1959 and his brother Stanley died in Preston Vic in 1968.....but Albert/Bert just seems to have vanished.

Did you know that his mother Gertrude is buried with her sister in VIC?
Perhaps that was her reason for moving from West to East coast.

I know that Gertrude along with her mother and step-father came over to WA where they died and are buried there.

Yes, it was a trial, as Gertrude is recorded as Turslove and not Truslove on cemetery records and her sister "May Allen" had morphed from "Ethel May Hellen" into "May Allen" which suggests Albert "Bert" Charles Truslove could have easily changed his name to disappear.
