Title: Great Grandfather
Post by: Welly07 on Tuesday 19 March 24 16:25 GMT (UK)
Hiya , hoping I can get some help tracing my great grandfather William Carroll. Not much is known about him. From the death certificate, he is 69 and died oct 1983. He married Margaret Hennesey in 1944 in Cork city and on a bit of paper we have, his  parents as written as Patrick and Norah Carroll
He is living in Collins barracks and a soldier on marriage certificate in 1944. I'm struggling to find the correct birth date and his daughter my nan, has his name as William Anthony Carroll on her marriage certificate. Please help

If you have his marriage certificate, there must be more information on it.
His age?
Name and occupation of father?
Religion?
All those things should help trace his birth.

Are these your folk?

Nora McCarthy a little harder to find in 1911 census
maybe here

But 1901 census here, and confirms 1911 was correct.

The 1887 Marriage below of William Carroll to Brigid Linehan - in the same area - lists William’s Father as being another William:-
