Hello I'm looking for birth/baptismal records for my gt gt grandfather.
Born Thomas May 1839/40 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Father is Thomas May. Mother Elizabeth May (Nee Cunningham)

Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Do you know when his parents married? 

If you can't find him under May he could be under Cunningham.

How have you found his parents names without a birth record - are they all on a census together?

Could he be the son of Thomas and Caroline  :-\

There is a 12 year old Thomas May in 1851 son.

Caroline was a Wilson.

There is a Thomas Wilson birth in 1838 Newcastle no mothers maiden name but this could be a completely different family so will stop there and see what else you have.

Seems a bit of a complicated family at first glance.

1871 Elizabeth Cunningham 45 widow with son James 8 listed as brother to head of household Thomas May, but is she actually his mother in Law and James his brother in law?

1881 Elizabeth Cunningham is with son James William Cunningham 17 and married daughter Elizabeth Doulton 32 and grandson Wilson May.
From GRO birth reg of James W Cunningham shows no maiden name, so he was probably illegitimate.

Where are the family in 1841 / 51

Like Milliepede I can only see a Thomas bn c1839 in Newcastle with a Thomas May and Caroline (nee Wilson)

Hi all thanks for the responses yes it is a complicated family. He always lived  in Newcastle on Tyne, As far as i can make  out from the Census his  parents were Thomas May and Caroline May (nee Wilson).

Your opening post says his mother was Elizabeth nee Cunningham but you are now saying it was Caroline nee Wilson?

There is no marriage on freebmd for a Caroline Wilson & Thomas May after 1838

If he was the son of Thomas & Caroline they must have married pre 1837 as they have children born before Civil reg

sorry folks all these Thomas's are making me dizzy. Let's start again.
Thomas May born 1839/40 Newcastle upon Tyne. Lookiing for his birth or baptismal cert.
His son Wilson born Newcastle 1869 married 1892 shows father Thomas deceased. I think he died 1876. His mother is Elizabeth nee Cunningham.
So Thomas is married to Elizabeth.
Certificates held for Wilson so i know dates and names are correct.
Thomas and his wife Elizabeth lived in Newcastle on Tyne. Thomas's parents were Thomas born 1811 from Census in Dunfermline and mother Caroline born  1811.
1871 census shows Wilson living with parents Thomas and Elizabeth in Newcastle on Tyne. Ages and location fit. Also living with them is Elizabeths  mother(Elizabeth Cunningham and  brother James Cunningham) So im convinced this is them. Census shows Thomas born 1840 in Northumberland.
