I’m looking for the marriage and birth of someone who may still be alive, Sydney Tann, so I assume I’d need to do it in a personal message. They are connected to a DNA match and are linked to Cornwall. I don’t know why it’s so difficult to find the records. If anyone can help I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

You could start by giving us an approximate date for the birth and marriage and we could see if he might be deceased or not.
Debra :)

Nothing showing, with connection to Cornwall, in FreeBMD, nor Ancestry for Sydney Tann. However, there is a death in Cornwall for Thomas Sidney Tann, plus birth and marriage registrations for Thomas S Tann in Cornwall/Devon.
-
Thanks Dundee and BumbleBee. He and his wife (if they are married) are the parents of a woman born in the 1970’s.
-
If you use FreeBMD then you can limit the births in 1970's to "Tann" in Cornwall. If you find the forename of the particular person, then that will give you the maiden name of the mother. From there you can then look for a marriage between Tann and ????
-
Thanks. I know the name of the mother but even if I do a search just with her name for a marriage nothing shows up. Can I say what her name is on here or isn’t that allowed due to her possibly being still alive?

I see three female Tann births in 1970s in Cornwall. Using mmn I searched for corresponding marriages with a male Tann and thus ruled out two of these births i.e the husband didn't fit. For the remaining female Tann, born 1970, I can find no corresponding marriage with Tann and the mmn. The first letter of the mmn is T.
This is probably essentially what you already have.
-
Yes that’s right Alan, thanks.
-
The female birth in 1970 with mmn beginning with T is also registered under a different surname with the same reference. There is a marriage for this surname with said maiden name in 1966 in Truro .

This should be a board game!

Thanks Christine. That’s helpful. I’ll have a look.

I’ve found the alternative surname and the marriage but no following marriage to Sydney Tann.

There is a younger man, who appears to be the son of Thomas Sidney Tann, born in 1946. He died in 2006 registered as Michael Thomas Sidney Tann - although the birth index shows Thomas M S Tann. He was married in 1968 in St Austell.
Until the 'no-fault' divorce became law on 1 January 1971, only the 'innocent' partner in a marriage could initiate divorce proceedings - or choose not to do so.

Thanks. I’ve been looking for Sydney or Thomas. Michael looks like a possibility. Thanks.

I’ve traced Michael back to Thomas S. Tann b 1917 and he fits into the Tan family I found on another tree that attaches to the Pike/Brimblecombe family on my tree. Thanks very much Galium and all those who helped. 👏👏👏
