Hi,
Can anyone help me find out what happened to Mary Hanly/Hindley after 1861 please?
She was born in Middlewich, Cheshire around 1821, to Charles, a boatman and Martha Proudlove
She married Timothy HANLY in Manchester (Prestwich) in 1839:
Timothy HANLY, full age, bachelor, carter, Hollinwood, Edward Hanly, boat man
Mary Proudlove, minor, spinster, no listed occupation, Hollinwood, Charles Proudlove, boat man
Witnesses: Margaret Snake, Bartholomew Dancer
Haven’t found any results for them in 1841 census, but I think they probably would’ve been in Manchester, but not sure. The Proudlove family were travellers, but I haven’t been able to trace much about the Hanly’s before this, but given Timothy’s father was a boatman as well, I’d imagine they were also travellers, but I don’t think Timothy and his wife were, at least after they married.
1851 census: Sutton, Lancashire
Timothy Hanly, head, married, 36, labourer born Ireland, not known
Mary Hanly, wife, married, 30, born Cheshire, Middlewich
Ann do, daughter, 4, born Manchester
Edward do, son, 10, born Manchester
Charles do, son, 7, born Manchester
Timothy do, son, 4 months, born Sutton
Ann do, mother, widow, 60, born Ireland not known.
There is another Hanly family down the street from them, also with a child named Timothy, that gives birth location as Roscommon
1861 census: Appleton Street, Sutton
Timothy Hanley, head, married, 45, bricklayers labourer, born Ireland
Mary do, wife, married, 39, born Cheshire, Middlewich
Charles do, son, unmarried, 17, brick carrier, born St. Helens
Ann do, daughter, 14, brick carrier, born St. Helens
Mary do, daughter, 8, scholar, born St. Helens
Martha do, daughter, born St. Helens
Some time between 1861 and 1864, they move to Liverpool and change their surname to Hindley.
In 1864, their son Charles gets married there:
Charles Hindley, minor, bachelor, bricklayer, Trowbridge street, Timothy Hindley, labourer
Mary Ellen Mercer, minor, spinster, no listed occ, Trowbridge street, James Mercer, carver and gilder
Witnesses: John and Catherine Dixon
The only death I can find for Timothy’s mother, Ann, is in Liverpool in November 1864. Haven’t found anything else that fits for her, can anyone help with this too? Haven’t found an 1861 census return for her, a few widows in Manchester could be her, but would have no way of definitely proving one of them were her.
Ann Hanly (perhaps the name change was fluid?) Buried Ford Cemetery, 25 November 1864, of 2 Court Midghall Street, age 70 years
Timothy died in Liverpool in 1870 and was buried in Anfield (in R.C section)
Buried 9 July 1870, Timothy Hindley, 55 years, labourer, 3 Court Shimmin Street.
Haven’t been able to pinpoint a death for his wife Mary, or a 1871 census record, or later, if she was still alive. Could anyone help with this? Could anyone also help to see if the 1864 death for Ann is correct?
Thanks for any assistance. :)

Thank you Colin for your response. :)
I've tended to stick to Liverpool for Mary's death, as I couldn't find anything in Sutton in the early 1860s, and the last time they're known to be in Manchester is 1847, so at least for now, I'm assuming a Liverpool death is most likely.
There is a burial record for Mary Hindley:
22 April 1869, Mary Hindley, age 47, Penrith Street.
This is probably the most likely option that I've found, but I can't be 100% sure, because this family was Catholic, and most of them were buried in the Ford Cemetery. But Mary's family being from Cheshire, there's a fair chance she wasn't a Catholic so this could still fit. Her son Charles's wife wasn't a Catholic either, and was buried in C.O.E section in Anfield Cemetery, so it shows it is plausible for Mary too.
There are also a few other possibilities, but less likely I think:
Mary Hanley, buried 3 April 1870, age 52, of Portland Street, St. Anthony's (Catholic)
Mary Hanley, buried 7 November 1870, age 46, of Workhouse, widow, Toxteth Park (C.O.E)
I think Mary HINDLEY buried in 1869 is probably most likely, but would like others thoughts before I ordered the certificate :)

I downloaded the digital image for Mary Hindley died 1869, who was the wife of James Hindley, who was also the informant, so not the right Mary. The death for Ann was also not correct.
I can't pinpoint any alternatives. Does anyone have any other ideas? ???

Do you have Timothy's death certificate as that may mention whether he was widowed at that time.

Edward also married in Liverpool in 1864 as per LancashireOPC
Marriage: 22 Aug 1864 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire
Edward Hindley - (X), Full, Labourer, Bachelor, Norton St.
Ellen Devlen - Full, Widow, Norton St.
Groom's Father Timothy Hindley, Labourer
Bride's Father William Devlen, Labourer
Witnesses: Edward Williams & Mary Everhou__?

Yes, unfortunately there is no mention of family. The informant is a resident in his street who was present at the time of death. The age and occupation are correct, though, and Timothy isn't a common name. The burial record states it was a Catholic burial as well, so I'm sure this is him.

Thank you Rosie for your find! :) I would imagine these are relatives in some way, but I'd have trouble pinpointing how they are related. William's age would suggest a dob around 1836, so probably too young to be a brother of Timothy, but too old to be a son of his, so maybe a nephew or cousin or other relative.
The only sibling of Timothy's I have yet found is in the 1851 census, not far from where Timothy is living at the time, there is this family. I assume Thomas was his brother. This doesn't connect William, but certainly confirms the family were in touch with each other, even if they varied their spelling!
Thomas Hanley, head married 34 labourer, b. Ireland, Roscommon
Bridget do, wife, married, 29, b. Ireland, Kilday
Thomas do, son, 11, b. Manchester
Timothy do, son, 4, b. Manchester
Mary do, daughter, 5 months, b. Lancashire, Sutton.

Both William’s and Thomas’s marriages should name their fathers.
