Title: Jewkes Middlesborough / Yorkshire Area
Post by: Soph87 on Tuesday 23 April 24 22:28 BST (UK)
Hello,

I used this board many years ago to help me start my family tree and had some amazing help.
I am trying to help a friend trace her family of not too long ago, and am a little stuck.

I am trying to trace the parents of;

 Jewkes born around 1900 Middlesborough

Hi,

I'm afraid RootsChat has a strict "no living people" policy. Please remove their names from your post using the 'modify' button.

There is a thread on the subject here:

I am sorry how do I do that?

Just on the top right hand side of your post; it is a little red button with a pencil icon in it.

I don't know if this is true - and please do give an opinion, anyone, if you have more expert knowledge on this - but I think it is legal to order a copy of someone else's birth certificate?

An article on it here:
https://support.vitalcertificates.co.uk/article/55-can-i-order-someone-elses-birth-certificate

It says "if the birth took place over 50 years ago, much less information is required in order to make the request." I wonder if your friend, using the information you already have, could order a copy of their birth certificate?

I wouldn't usually suggest it, but seeing as your friend is researching her own family (presumably a close relation?) I don't see a big problem with it.

Thank you,

Yes very close friend researching.  Just starting the journey.

I could not delete the post only modify, which may make the post appear to make no sense now :-[

Many thanks for this suggestion, I can try this route.

Hi Soph,

I’ve sent you a PM and I hope you see it because I have found the mother of the people in the original post and even have a photograph of her.

If you would like to, you could start a new post looking into her background using the information I have provided, as she died in 2017. It might be a good idea to post it on the Northern Ireland board, as that is where she was from.
