In the 1871 census he was living in Plymouth with his wife Catherine and children, both stating being born inLaunceston Cornwall.
In the 1881 census he was living in Deal Kent having remarried.
I recently posted a topic under Kent "William Harris of Deal",his second wife leaving him in 1881.
I cannot find a record of his wife Catherine's death,presumably between 1871 and 1881.
I found a death for a Samuel Harris in Bideford Devon District,age 86,born 1825,buried 1911.
I cannot find anything about him between the 1881 census and his death in 1911 and wonder if he returned to Devon or Cornwall after 1881?
I found a 1841 census record for Dawlish Devon showing a George Harris 18 Tailor and Samuel Harris 16,both born Devon.A bit strange ?
Any help greatly appreciated, including any records between 1841 and 1871.

I don't usually look at other people's trees, but apparently this death was registered by Ann Mary Gibbings, his

He had been in the army before his marriage. From his Statement of Service, he served from 6 Dec 1784 until 5 Dec 1802 in the 47th foot, including 6 years in the East or West Indies
https://www.lancashireinfantrymuseum.org.uk/47th-regiment shows it would have been West Indies
The he was classed at Out Pension, so receiving pension but not living in the Royal Chelsea Hospital. He then joined the 8th Regiment of Royal Veterans until 10 July 1814.
Document is dated 10 July 1814 at Fort Cumberland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Cumberland_(England)

John is noted as about 52, 5 foot six, brown hair, black eyes & dark complexion.

That is all fascinating osprey :)
-
Thanks again osprey and trish,so interesting.I cannot seem to find the personal details height etc on line ?
-
the record I found was on Findmypast. There's no year of birth and indexed as St Stephens, Launcester although it came up when I put in Launceston. The description is to prevent any improper use of the discharge and there's a crease through it but it is legible.

Thankyou yet again Osprey.
