I am researching Mary Ann Sheppard born in Bucks in 1852 moved to Kingsthorpe in the 1860's. I can find no other information about her after 1871 where she is visiting family in Hull. I've hit a brick wall with the lady but I have a half clue in a cutting from the Northampton Mercury of 1884 which says “The Military Board School managers recommended that the salary of the caretaker be increased to 10s a week and that Mary Ann Sheppard be appointed monitress at a salary of 3s a week.”
Can anyone help in identifying the school? Or tracking my elusive Mary Ann at all?

The school seems to be more often referred to as the Military Road School, or the Military Road Board School.

I think this Mary Ann Sheppard is probably the one in the 1891 census aged 20, an assistant school mistress.
The children taken on as monitors/monitresses to train as teachers were sometimes as young as 13.

It is most definitely Military Road School in Military Road Northampton.
FindMyPast has school registers which names it as such.
It was a very big school in the town a bit like Clare St and Barry Road schools.

I think this may be the family, or part of, in 1861.
I think Mary Ann was born Beachampton, Bucks. Another sibling Cassandra.
Cannot find her in 1871 or 1881 though ???
