Title: Langmaid Family from Highway
Post by: gralorn on Friday 28 June 24 15:25 BST (UK)
This is a really old chestnut and several of us with LANGMAID links get very confused or even lost over whose, whose parents are who around 1818.
I do know for ‘fact’ that William LANGMAID who was born on the 3rd November 1858 had parents Richard LANGMAID 1818-1894 and Jane Anne Lander 1829-1896. BUT, yes there is always a but, who were their parents, in particular Richard the fathers. Can anyone assist me so as I research down the right track of Langmaids.

Thank you in anticipation

When did Richard and Jane Anne marry? **

Their marriage certificate should have fathers information.

** Richard Langmaid Jane Anne Lander marriage registration Dec 1857 Liskeard

If you apply for a copy of the marriage certificate it should help you out.

Possibly a second marriage for Richard

1851

Richard Langmaid 30
Elizabeth 25
John 1

Death for Elizabeth Langmaid 1851

A lot of trees have the family:-

Richard Langmaid, son of John (1795-18640 and Mary Ann Jones !797-1858)

Married Jane Ann Lander, born in St Veep in 1828, in 1858

They don't seem to have her baptism, but there was a Jane Ann Launder, baptised in St Veep, on 2nd March 1828, daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Hill, who married in St Veep on 2nd October 1827.

Thank you so much for the information furnished so far, but this is where it starts to go wrong I feel. I have Richard being married twice to Elizabeth Pearce on the 19 Aug 1849 and then Jane Anne Lander, but I then have a choice of two sets of parents for Richard, either:
 A) John LANGMAID 1795-1877 married to Mary Weymouth nee Broad

Or

b) John LANGMAID 1795-1863 married to Mary Ann nee Jones 1797-1858

So which is correct and then who are this John’s parents. It gets very confusing as Llanteglos has so many Langmaids, chippies and farmers it seems.

Your information isso very much appreciated, and I do so want to get down the right path as these LANGMAID trees go so far back which is brilliant.

These are a few of the tree that I currently have, but feel sure they are not correct and that I have mixed two branches.

Gralorn, did you or have you ever followed through on Richard’s first son John and what happened to him

I doubt the one to Mary Ann Jones as it's in 1835 and that John has a middle name of Hichens
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=marriages&id=1270929

The opc database has the 1818 marriage of John Langmaid, carpenter, to Elizabeth Wymouth Broad, a spinster. But the banns have her name as Mary Wenmouth so looks to be the correct marriage.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01t9b/

So this baptism matching her place of birth given on 1851 census as St Veep, to parents John & Elizabeth
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=5759706

1783 marriage of John Broad to Elizabeth Wenmoth which explains Mary's middle name
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=marriages&id=1164255

John's place of birth shows as Lansallos in 1851 so could be this baptism to John & Rebecca

John, the possible grandfather of Richard, died in 1822 and left a will which mentions wife Rebecca, eldest son George, son John, youngest son Joseph, daughter Mary and various sisters.

Right, I have been away and looked at various bits and pieces and come up with what I think is the family line that I am from. If anyone thinks that it is wrong please say so, as I would prefer to be correct.
William LANGMAID & Mary Hazel > Richard LANGMAID & Jane Anne Lander & Elizabeth Pearce > John LANGMAID & Mary Weymouth B-road > John LANGMAID & Mary Thomas > Henry LANGMAID & Elizabeth Soby > John LANGMAID (1694-1770) & Joan Lyne.

Does that seem correct. I also notice that Henry and Elizabeth had 7 children, but 2 were Johns, so presumably one died in infancy.
Any comments would be most appreciated. Thank you.

my apologies, I think I gave you the wrong burial for John, father of Richard. There is this 1871 census with John, carpenter born Lansallos with second wife

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFJC-SCS

birth reg for son Frank
Frank Langmaid sept qtr 1864 Liskeard vol 5c pg 86 mmn Best

marriage reg
John Langmaid march qtr 1860 Liskeard vol 5c pg 129 with Rebecca Best on the same page
This cert should confirm name & occupation of John's father.

1861 census - John has lost a few years on marrying a younger wife
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7H6-ZKB
Sidney Colling is the son of Richard's sister Margaretta who married Francis Colling(s)
marriage in Stoke Damerel
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KC94-SFB

birth reg Sidney Collings sept qtr 1844 Liskeard mmn Langmaid
1851 census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGKX-PZF

baptism in 1823 for Margaretta
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JMHP-CYR

burial for John in St Veep in 1877
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=burials&id=1290357
Frank in 1874
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=burials&id=4971059
and for Rebecca in 1894
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=burials&id=4589986

John gives his place of birth as Lansallos in 1851 & 1871 so I would look there for a baptism. John, son of John & Mary, was baptised in Lanteglos.

Hi there,

Just registered here as looking to do more investigations into my family tree. My grandfather was Frederick James  Langmaid, son of John Langmaid 1877 and Alice Dobinson 1877. I have info of the family living in Polperro from the Polperro museum I visited many years ago. A branch of the family moved to Shingle Street in Suffolk. I'm pressuming all the Langmaids are linked?
