I need help to find when Joseph (b. abt 1834) & Mary Ann Irwin (b. abt 1836)arrived in Moreton Bay, Brisbane around 1880. They came with their family from Ireland to include Ellen, Elizabeth, Joseph, Sarah, Henrietta & Kate Apparently he was offered work in Australia on Chauvels "Caning Downs" property near Warwick in Queensland. I have looked but can find no trace is any help would be fabulous.

The townland is Moyknock, Kilrea is the civil parish. So, it should read Moyknock, Kilrea, Londonderry, Ireland (Nothern Ireland wasn't formed until 20th century).

Son Robert born & baptised 1851 also in 1st Kilrea.

Unsure if this Matthew born 1859 Drumoolish is another son since mother's Christian name not listed-

There's also a child in 1860 but no details given except father Joseph Irwin.
Daughter Elizabeth born 1862 Drumoolish on same page.
Baptism for Joseph William in 1864 gives age as 11 months (age likely mistranscribed)

Hi Sue Yes I am descended from Robert Irwin who came to NZ and was the son of Joseph Irwin. I have some history of Joseph's family in Warwick Australia but have never found out what ship they came over on or the date. There are some wonderful family photos that I am trying to locate. Ron Affleck who is Gladys Irwin's son did a wonderful family history and was printed in the 1970's and the photos that are in that history which are very grainy and I presume the originals must be somewhere. Any info would be fabulous. Thanks Louise.

Where does the information come from that Joseph worked on Canning Downs?
He would have been rather old by the late 1880s to take up that kind of work.
The Warwick Argus Sat 31 Mar 1900
OBITUARY- We regret to record the death this week of an estimable old townsman in the
person of Mr. Joseph Irwin, who passed away at his residence, Canning-street, early on
Thursday morning. Deceased, who had attained the age of 76, had been ailing for
some time past and in the opinion of his medical adviser the only hope of relief lay in
an operation, which, however, the old gentle man steadily refused to undergo. Latterly
his condition became more critical and the suffering more intense, but nevertheless the
end came unexpectedly on Thursday, when the deceased passed quietly away.
Mr. Irwin had been a resident of Warwick for 15 or 16 years, and leaves a widow and grown
up family of five-three daughters and two sons, one of whom is Mr. J Irwin railway
station-master at Harrisville, near Ipswich, and until recently in charge of the station at Swan Creek
He was a relative of the Rev.J. Irvine Knippe, D.D., of Maryborough.
The funeral took place yesterday, the burial service being conducted by the Rev. C. J. Legate.

- Arrived in QLD about 1880
- The family did not all arrive in QLD at the same time.
- He worked for the Chauvel family (senior) in Tabulam, NSW.
- Family address of Canning Street may have been confused over time with Canning Downs
I am thinking that family information about who worked where, and for whom, may have become slightly confused over time.

Hi I think was the younger Joseph that came for work maybe as a shepherd and the family came also finding accommodation in Warwick. Thank you for all your help and the link to Trove. It certainly makes more sense. Much Appreciated Louise

There is a Joseph W. Irwin (age 17, Irish, farm labourer) who arrived in Brisbane on “Earl Dalhousie” in Feb 1881. The ship departed England in Nov 1880.
So maybe his siblings and parents came after that, but may not have arrived together, and may not have disembarked in QLD.
