Hi
I am trying to trace a relative called Edward J Sullivan , his parents Elisabeth Carey from Rathkeale Co Limerick , Ireland married John Sullivan from Shanagolden Co Limerick Ireland in 1860. They emigrated to the US probably after the married their son Edward rose to political prominence and was recognized by President Theodore Roosevelt.
I made contact with the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson state University and they share personal letters between President Roosevelt and Edward whom the president awarded him with a consular appointment in Turkey. I understand Edward moved to California and worked in real estate but am hoping you can help trace his career path from ~1908, I have share the correspondence between President Roosevelt and Edward or the article from the New York times detailing his consular appointment

search for "Edward J. Sullivan"
the quotes will cut down on matches to people named Edward or who have J in their name.
many articles, attached sample is from
Los Angeles Herald, Volume XL, Number 251, 21 August 1914

this might be him. says b 1863, Ireland, d November 19,
1918 1928, buried Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/236638708/edward-j.-sullivan
If that is him, he didn't get much of an obituary - from an OCR scan
. SULLIVAN. November 19, Edward J. Sullivan, a native of Limerick, Ireland, aged 55 years.
Funeral Thursday. November 22, at 8:15 a.m. from chapel of Cunningham O'Connor, 1031 South Grand avenue. Requiem mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ninth and Green streets, at 9 a.m. Interment, Calvary.
Note: Nov 1918 was the first wave of the Spanish Influenza.
corrected. see following posts.

Sincere thanks again for your help , Edwards parents married in 1860 so the dates would seem to tie and I received correspondence that he was active in real estate in California but you are correct its a fairly unassuming obituary for someone who had a decorated career.

On the gravesone it states 1863-1928 so maybe he died from some other cause, interesting that no family are mentioned on the obituary either , I was wondering if he married and had a family , also jus t to outline connection , Edward's mother Elisabeth was a sister of my great great grandfather Cornelius Carey (1849-1908)

guess I'm going blind :) I don't know how I missed that.

Sullivan. picturesque son of Ireland. died he bequeathed "my soul to Heaven, and my body to the earth." and left $350 to a priest at Shanogolden, Limerick county, Ireland, 50 prayers might be Maid for his son's soul. The rest of the estate, valued at less than $10,000, was left to his sister. Mrs. Belle, it was shown when the will was filed for probate here today

He might have got a longer obituary and I just can't find it.

can easy happen :D.....I would think the link from findagrave you sent is probably correct going off the dates, on the first article you sent it mentioned that he wrote a number of articles/books on trade etc so maybe if I located them he may cite a family member that he dedicated them to but that's probably a long shot , I would just like to try figure out if he had a family in case he may have decedents living in the US today

I was wondering if he married and had a family
Possibility for him in 1910 and 1920 --

yes they both are worth checking notwithstanding that the arrival dates being 1888 if that refers to arrival into the US would not be correct ,I would have thought very shortly after he was born was when his parents emigrated but I will look into it ....
-
Here's the actual death certificate & the parents' names match your Edward's. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9SV-F9M9-6?i=1031&wc=FGVQ-2NL%3A285176601%2C285554602&cc=2001287
-
thanks that's a terrific find ....its does'nt mention next of kin on death cert only parents which are correct as you mention
-
notwithstanding that the arrival dates being 1888 if that refers to arrival into the US would not be correct
Immigration arrival dates on US census records quite often are a few years out.
-
ok thanks for the clarification , if you happen to come across any photo of Edward that would be great other than that thank you so much for your help , you have unearthed some really fascinating insights , I am so grateful......thanks again
