Hello
I'm trying to trace my many great aunts and uncles on my dad's side of the family. I've been fairly successful but a few are providing me with brick walls and William being one of them, so I'm asking very nicely for some help if possible.
This is what I know so far. William was born in 1880, in Whaplode. His father being Joseph Harry Taylor and his mother Ellen Carr. In both 1881 and 1891 Census returns he is with his family. In 1881 still in Whaplode but by 1891 they have moved to Sutton Bridge.
This is where my trail runs cold and William disappears. I cannot find him in the 1901 Census nor the 1911.
I then find a potential marriage of a William H Taylor and a Lily J Atkins in 1912. I'm not 100% sure whether this is him. I've searched for a parish register in the hope that I can see if Joseph is the father of this man. Lily herself is resident in Whaplode prior to this, although she was born in Wisbech, Cambs.
I tried to then see if I could find William and Lily in the 1921 Census. I don't have access to it but Lily is apparently a widow and a housekeeper to another widower called Charles.
So this William, if he is mine dies sometime between 1912 and 1921.
So I'm asking if anyone can help me in finding William between 1891 and 1912?
I'd love to be able to finish his story off as apart from one other half-brother I've more or less completed all the stories of the other siblings and half-siblings.
Thank you in advance.
Melanie

I wonder if this is the husband of Lily Atkins
Death Dec qtr 1915
Taylor William H age 30
Holbeach RD 7a 501
-
In the previous census Lily is living with Charles Fawn and her sister Martha Atkins - there are both described as SiL to Charles.
-
As he has escaped the census, perhaps he enlisted in the army? I have a man who "disappeared" at this time and he turned up in the Rifle Brigade!
Might be worth getting the marriage cert as may give a clue in his occupation.

I would say that's quite possible, but that could also rule him out being my William as mine would have been 35. But then I've found ages wrong many times.

Which Census is this?

I did wonder this. Somebody elsewhere did suggest that he could have maybe gone off to the Boer War, as would have been around 20 when that started.

1911, You quoted the 1921 census for Lily ;D

Thank you.
The more I think about it I'm not convinced that the marriage to Lily is my William. I found another William H who was born in Spalding who I thought might be the Lily one. He's 16 in 1901 which would make him 30 in 1915 so I think this could be Lily's William.
I did think I'd found him in 1901 in Yorkshire as I found a William and a marriage in Whaplode, with a father Joseph but checking other census returns he's also in Yorkshire in 1891 so that rules him out.

I see his mother died and his father remarried before the 1901 census. None of the children are with their father and his new wife.

Yes Ellen died in childbirth and the child died as well in 1877. Ellen was Joseph's 2nd wife. He'd previously been married to her sister, Mary and she died young leaving him with a number of young children. I can only assume that Ellen helped to look after her nieces and nephews and they ended up getting married.
He then married my great-grandmother Ann Eliza in 1899 and went on to have 3 more children, including my grandad. My dad and his brothers and sisters did not know of these 2 other families until I started doing the family tree. So I can only assume he didn't have anything to do with them or my grandfather never talked about them. He can't have been a heartless man as my great grandmother had a child prior to marriage and he brought up Bertie as his own.
