Title: Thomasina Young
Post by: aidansrest on Monday 21 October 24 13:48 BST (UK)
Hi

Looking to try and locate a baptism or a birth registration for a Thomasina/Thomasine Young.
She was born in Blyth, Northumberland c 1836 and married Richard Oxley in Newcastle on the 12th November 1860.
I have a partial transcript from the marriage which gives her father's name as John Young.

I have found her on the 1841 census, in Horton, near Blyth, with John and two elder siblings, Elizabeth and Jane.
She is listed as 'Thomasson' and is 5 years old.
Her father's year of birth is given as 1795, and her sibling, Elizabeth, is 15 years, and sibling, Jane, is 10 years.
By 1851, only Thomasina, listed as 'Thompson' remained with her father. and they are living in High Pans, Morpeth.
John's year of birth is given as 1795 and place of birth as Rothbury - he was an agricultural labourer.
Thomasina's year of birth is given as 1836, and place of birth as Earsdon, Northumberland.

I cannot find a baptism to confirm her mother's name and thus find a marriage for her parents.

Many Thanks Sue

According to Marriage Locator the Oxley & Young marriage took place at St Andrew, Newcastle.
As it is recorded that Thomasina was born at
Earsdon according to info you have found - she may have possibly been baptised at St Alban, Earsdon?  I will check to see if there is a baptism there  the next time I can get to North Shields local studies; likely at some point in next few weeks hopefully. :)

The Earsdon baptisms can be viewed via the Bishop’s Transcripts on Family Search.
This link takes you to the start of 1834 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6S9W-JQS?i=1165&cc=1309819&cat=1808542
Although I suppose there’s always the chance of omissions…..

Hi Sue,
I got a chance to pop into the local studies this morning and checked an index volume which includes all the 1830s baptisms at St Albans.  Unfortunately, I could not find a baptism for Thomasina Young.

In the time that I had I also checked an index volume for St Bartholomew at Benton - nothing there for Thomasina covering the 1830s.

There is Our Lady Church at Seaton Delaval which is not far from Earsdon which may also be a possibility but the local studies do not have the records for this Church.  I think St Mary, Horton may also be a possibility but the local studies does not have the records for this one either.

It was worth a try.  I'm sorry not to have better news to share with you.
