Hi, I am trying to fathom out discrepancies I have encountered with regard to my 2 x great grandmother Isabella Wardropper (1855 - 1890). Following up, and verifying, various leads on different websites I believed that her parents were John Wardropper and Margaret Rattery. However, I have now seen her original marriage certificate to Jeremiah Clish on 8 June 1872, at a register Office in the Houghton-le-Spring district, which lists her father as James Wardropper an agricultural labourer from Easington Lane, who was deceased at the time of Isabella's marriage. John Wardropper was an engine man on steamboats, lived in Sunderland and was alive at the time of Isabella's marriage.
Thus there at three discrepancies: the first name, the place, the occupation and whether or not Isabella's father was alive when she married. While I have been able to find a lot of information about John, I have not found information about James - I have checked the GRO Index and cannot find a James Wardropper who died in the period just before Isabella was born and the time she married. Can anyone help me solve this conundrum? Regards, DeeDutch

From the census 1881 Isabella states born Newcastle upon Tyne
GRO Birth registrations
Wardropper, Isabella 1854 mother's maiden name Dean
Wardropper, Isabella 1855 mother's maiden name Dodds
-
There are 2 x 1855 births for an Isabella Wardropper. One in Durham mmn Rattrey which you mention & one in Newcastle mmn Dodds
There is a John Wardropper marriage in 1837 to a Margaret Rattery which would mean Isabella was born 18yrs after the marriage
In 1861 there is a 5yr old daughter Isabella but although John is shown as married - Margaret is not present. John is an engine driver
Was she only 17 when she married?

Isabella Clish nee Wardropper names her children
Barbara 1873, Thomas Robson 1874, Elizabeth 1876, and Jeremiah 1880
Can anyone find Thomas and Barbara after 1851?
If her parents died while she was young she may have got her father's name wrong on the marriage certificate.

-----------------------
Possible parents of Barbara and John Dean.
Thomas DEAN married Barbara ? baptism all at Newcastle Upon Tyne.
George bap 22 February 1817
Barbara bap. 26 April 1818 This would match with DOB 1841/1851
Dorothy bap. 26 March 1820 married a Robson possibly Thomas 28 March 1841
Thomas bap. 30 January 1822
Mary bap 28 March 1824
John bap. 30 July 1827
----------------
Possible connection
Isabella Clish nee Wardropper named a son Thomas Robson Clish
-
The marriage of Dorothy to Thomas Robson is a transcription only.
From census his name seems to be John, so to avoid confusion the original entry of the marriage and and the names of the father's would be good.
