Hi
I am looking for the birth of Sarah Darby in Hockworthy, Devon sometime between 1818 and 1828.
Her father is William Darby, I have found his 1828 marriage to Susannah Pavey and their six children born after that date.
I believe John 1818 and Mary Ann 1819 could be Sarah's siblings.
Would like to find her birth and her mothers name assuming fist wife of William
kind regards Ian

1851 census with William and Susanna has John Darby as age 22 and Sarah Darby as 26 (born c1825)

Indeed Rosie
Which puts them as born before William and Susannah married in 1828 but cannot find the birth of Sarah using Ancestry or Findmypast and Susannah is most likely not her mother and therefore someone I would not need to trace back any further.
So frustrating :D
-
Who did Sarah marry & when? Did she name a father on her marriage cert?
Why the 10yr age span - b 1818 - 1828?
-
I see from the 1851 link you gave that there was someone living with them from Wambrook in Dorset
So perhaps his first marriage is the one in 1817 in Wambrook to a Sarah Crandon. That would tie in with the birth years for John and Mary Ann (1818 and 1819)
Perhaps Sarah Crandon is Sarah's mother
Sarah married John Cottrell 10 Mar 1854 in Wellington in Somerset father listed as William
-
The marriage of William and Susanna was by banns and does not indicate whether either have been previously married. A William Pavey was a witness though so possibly her father or brother.
Susanna could be her mother and John not her father :-\. In 1851 Susannah is 54 so born c1797
-
The person living with them was a Henry A Davey but could he be Pavey :-\. He was a widower age 87
-
If John was age 22 in 1851 then he was born after the marriage
ADDED He was baptised at Hockworthy 18 Jul 1830
-
William Darby married Susannah Pavey in 1828
Children
28/12/1829 Joseph Pavey Darby
18/06/1830 John
24/04/1831 Daniel
14/02/1833 Elizabeth
05/06/1834 Henry
22/05/1836 Emma
All in Hockworthy
There are 3 other children to William prior to this
John 1818
Mary Ann 1819
and Sarah
Which is why I think these three are from an earlier marriage for William
Only one I can find is in Hockworthy on 13 Feb 1817 in Wambrook to a Sarah Crandford

What you did not tell us to start with is that the John baptised 25th January 1818 at Hockworthy had parents William and Sarah. :-\
ADDED John died age 6 months
-
Sorry Rosie
Did not mean to mislead, was just confused :)
-
I was confused too ;D
I see that Mary Ann died age 14. I can't see a burial for Sarah the mother of John and Mary Ann but can see your reasoning for it to be the same William that then married Susanna.
-
Same here, could not find the burial for Sarah Darby (Crandon) and still no luck with the birth of Sarah Darby around 1825
The search goes on :D
-
Found it at Upottery ;D
The burial that is
Sarah Darby 9th June 1827 Abode - Hockworthy - age 34
-
Much love going your way, thank you so so much :D
-
;D ;D
Maybe young Sarah was not baptised. If her mother died shortly after she was born then it could just have been missed.
-
Very true, and a reminder of how much life was harder back then for our ancestors
-
They certainly did have it hard then.
It would be nice to find a baptism for Sarah though. I wonder what the connection to Upottery was.
