I am researching William hill baptised on March 2, 1794 in Manacan. I have his parents as Richard Hill 1778-1814 and Elizabeth Tellam 1775-1849. This would make Richard only 16 years old when his son was born. William married Elizabeth Trezise 1790-1863.
I'm not sure if I have William's parents correct or if maybe he was baptised a few years after his birth.
His 1841 census indicates he was born in 1796. The 1861 census suggests he was born in 1801 but the 1851 and 1871 census suggest his birth in 1794.
Thanks for any help

The only marriage of a Richard Hill (transcribed as Will on ancestry) to Elizabeth Tellam is 26 December 1801 at Illogen.
----------------------
The baptism date of 1794 would work with 1871 census parents being Richard and Elizabeth, but it has to be an earlier Richard and Elizabeth.
This couple also had a daughter Elizabeth bap. 22 April 1798 at Manaccan.

There is a marriage on 26 May 1792 in St. Hilary between a Richard Hill and an Elizabeth Nichols.
St. Hilary to Manaccan is about 18 miles.
The Richard Hill who married in 1801 to Elizabeth Tellam was a miner by occupation. Does that help eliminate him?
Richard Hill who died in 1814 was a Yeoman, and left a will.

When William married Eliz Tresize in 1817 one of the witnesses was Richard Hill.
I think this was his father, Still alive.
I think Richard Hill ( William’s father) may have died 28 Jan 1831, age 75. Burial in Manaccan.
The burial record has abode as “Tregonwell”.
Tregonwell is the same address in January 1831 for William and Elizabeth when their son Henry is baptised.
Also same address in 1827 for baptism of son Richard.

I think Williams mother Elizabeth Hill is the burial on 3 Dec 1826 in Manaccan. Age 74.
Abode is Church Town, which is also where William and wife and family are from 1823 to 1826, according to children’s baptisms.
That puts birth years for Richard and Elizabeth in early to mid 1750s.
If they were an older couple when married, that would explain only 2 children born in 1792 and 1798.

Thanks for all these great suggestions. I'm not sure what Richard's occupation was, but most of the Hills were farm labourers.
I believe now that Elizabeth Tellam was not likely Williams mother and his father Richard was most likely Williams marriage witness and died in 1831 at age 75
I'll need to research the Elizabeth Hill who was buried in Manaccan on Dec. 3, 1826 to try and find out her maiden name and birth date.

There's also an Elizabeth Hill buried in 1810, no age or address noted.

In case they turn out to be connected, the will of the Richard Hill of Tregonwell who died in 1814 age 36 mentions wife Sarah, 2 daughters Elizabeth & Mary and brother Sampson.

Sampson died in 1816 age 23 and left a will, mentions brother-in-law John Bowcher, husband of his sister Mary

I think now that William Hill 1794-1877 was the son of Richard Hill 1756-1831 and Elizabeth ? 1752-1826 who died in Manaccan at Church Town. Could this be the Elizabeth Nichols who married Richard Hill in St. Hilary in 1792?
I also think that Richard Hill 1756-1831 was the son of Richard Hill 1718-1782 and Rachel Nichol 1726-?

That's possible. The 1792 marriage is in the parish church of St Hilary but Richard Hill & Elizabeth Nichlos (she signed Nichlos) were both living on St Michael's Mount at the time

One of the witnesses was a Richard Hill.
There's also a baptism in St Hilary in 1792 of Richard, son of Richard & Elizabeth Hill.

Thanks for the help from all of you who took the time and effort to look for Williams parents for me. I think the most likely answer is Richard Hill who died on Jan. 28, 1831 buried in Manaccan and his mother Elizabeth who was buried on Dec. 3, 1826 in Manaccan. The question of Elizabeth's maiden name remains a mystery to me but I don't now think it was Tellam.
Your research has been a huge help for me.
Thanks to Neale1961, amondg, osprey and others who looked into this for me!
