I am trying to find more information about, and hopefully a photo of, Andrew French, born 12 April 1921 in Durham, died 7 June 1944 at home, 15 Alington Place, Durham. His parents were Frederick French and Jane Ann Hogarth.
He served in the 11th Battalion DLI during the Second World War and for a time was stationed near Halifax. There he met a lady called Winifred, and you can guess the rest! My mother in law was born in 1942. We believe Andrew was unaware of her existence.
It would mean a great deal to her to see a picture of her father and discover more about him.
Thank you

Welcome to Rootschat!
Firstly, a DNA test might help determine if Andrew French was your Mother-in-Law's Father.
He served as a Private in the Durham Light Infantry 11th Battalion Service number 4454483, they may well have a photograph of him when he signed up. On the 1921 census it shows his parents Frederick and Jane Ann plus siblings Lily 1912, Norman Henry 1917, Frederick John 1920. There are family trees online with incorrect siblings, but these will be the correct ones as shown on the 1921 census. You may be able to trace a living relative from these family members, and get a photograph that way. Don't give up, as I first saw my Grandmother's photograph when I found relatives in New Zealand, I am in the UK.
Regards.

Another sibling Eileen was b 1922. All siblings will now be deceased but as mentioned above - if they married there may be family photos which include Andrew
