Title: Addition to surname in 1939
Post by: chempat on Monday 21 April 25 13:04 BST (UK)
Sophia Gertrude Jamieson, born 1864, widowed, was living at 105 Earls Court Road in 1921, 1939 and at probate.

Can anyone tell me what is the word in front of her surname in 1939 as attached, and with links?

Thank-you

Looks like Donaldson/Jamieson to me?

That would make lots of sense - Donaldson was her husband's middle name but they do not use it elsewhere, and I had overlooked that.  Will try not to go cross-eyed next time.

Good.

Thanks.

Probably surname taken from her husband John whom she married in 1884.

James Lloyd Evans
John Donaldson Jamieson

According to her marriage record, 1884, her husband was John Donaldson Jamieson, so SS’ suggestion fits, although I can only see ‘Don” with any confidence

Apologies SS - you posted while I was composing!
