The first hurdle is knowing which colliery in order to find out which company/owner the employer was and which archive/repository may have records. If you can find which repository is involved then they can advise what is available and the search options.

Fatal Accidents maybe recorded in local papers and/or records held by the National Mining Museum Scotland though most accidents involve just one or perhaps two men and tend to be fairly brief summaries of just a paragraph or two.

The Scottish Mining Website at http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/10.html is also a good base to work from.

As to records it depends largely which company your ancestor worked for  South Lanarkshire Council have some Records

and Glasgow University Business Archives also have others.

but they are mainly dealing with the business side of things rather than the individuals working there.
