Title: Hallmarks - Silver
Post by: cordley on Thursday 28 August 25 13:34 BST (UK)
Some silver spoons have been passed down through the family and I am trying to confirm the likely owners, each is of a set of six.

Can anyone interpret the assay marks so I can see how old they are.?  about 1820 and 1860 perhaps?

And another question;  I think these spoons were given at marriage to the Brides, was that a common gift, and would they have have come from her parents - is there a tradition about this??  I know silver spoons were often an item named in Wills.

Sorry, best photos my phone let me take!  Hope this is an appropriate place to post this.

The head looks like George 111 & date letter "L" = 1806.

Thanks, Jim.  It was older than I suspected.

I had trouble posting this request and it seemed to disappear, so I started again in the "Common Room"  under the Topic " Old silver - assay marks, trying to date spoons" where I was able to add better pictures, and there have been more replies.

Don't know if there is a way of linking these two Topics...  sorry
