Hi All,
Can anyone find Samuel Waller born Offley 1799 and his wife Susanna born Hitchin 1802 - children born in Offley, Hannah 1823 and Samuel George born 1833?
Wife's maiden name was Westwood - just in case living with relatives!!
Cheers
Keith

Hi Keith,
No luck with Samuel and Susanna in 1851 but have found Samuel junior and Hannah. Do you need details, if so I will let you have them.
Regards ... Peter

Hi Peter,
Many thanks for looking - yes would love details of Samuel junior and Hannah.
The Westwood family and offshots are giving me more than the usual problems!!
Thanks AGAIN :) :)

Hannah married at Hitchin on 21st November 1846.
Elizabeth is the widow of William Waller. Death could be registered in the June quarter at Hitchin V.6. P.380.
I haven't given up on Sammy senior yet.
Regards ... Peter

Hi Peter,
Many thanks for that.
I did find the marriage of a Hannah Waller on the Dec Q/r 1846 and then tried to find any possible husband for her in the 1861 census - but couldn't!
Now I know the definite person she married - I will try again.
Hope none of my lot had a lisp ;D ;D
There are now Westwood - Windwood - Waller - and their friends Wetherhead !!
Will see where that information leads me - don't go to far!! :D :D :D
Cheers

Hi Keith,
The entry immediately preceeding that for William and Hannah, which was on the previous page, reads as follows ...
HO107/1710 F.90 P.27 Old Park Road, Hitchin.
Thomas Worboys Head M 46 Ag Lab Hitchin
Sarah Worboys Wife 37 Straw Plaiter Wetherden, Suffolk
Hannah Worboys Dau 11 Straw Plaiter Hitchin
Henry Worboys Son 8 Straw Plaiter Hitchin
Alfred Worboys 2 Hitchin
The handwriting on this entry was clearly WORBOYS, whereas that for Hannah was a bit iffy.
Wetherden is a village between Stowmarket and Bury St.Edmunds.
Hope to have some more for you soon.
Regards ... Peter

Hi Peter
I was just entering up the above details - when I thought (Careful now!) I have typed Old Park Road before!!
Yep - you found the Windwoods and the Westwoods living there in 1851 as well!!
You don't know how long the road was do you??
Perhaps my lot took over the street!! ;D ;D
Right - back to entering and reacting to, all the data you have so far found.
Thanks again
Keith
P.S. - I did say in my first post-script on here that the Susanna Waller was a Westwood!!
-
Hi Peter,
Me Again!!
I am intrigued by your statement that Elizabeth Waller was the widow of William - where did you get that from?
I have looked at FreeBMD and there are quite a few Wallers who died between 1841 and 1851.
I don't think they are directly related but have now realised that there are lots of Wallers about!!
The first to be a direct relation is Hannah - from the Westwood side of my family - but I still like to include all I can.
I still think that anyone who is my uncle or aunt is a relation - even if it is only through marriage.
Now off again to continue to enter the rest.
Cheers

Hi Keith,
To put your mind at rest, I searched the IGI for the birth of Charles and James Waller at Hitchin circa 1832/4 and found their parents names from that source.
Regards ... Peter
-
Hi Peter,
Of course!!
It doesn't take much to put my mind out these days!! ;D
Still a few birth details to find for the rest - my tree has just grown again!
Cheers

Hi All,
As an update to this - I have today received a marriage certificate for my great aunt - Mary Jane Bateman's marriage to Charles Campkin in 1904.
Well - what's that got to do with Wallers??!!
In 1901 census Charles was living with his brother in law's family - Frederick Waller and his wife Jane.
Now all I have to do is connect the first and last posts of mine!! ;D ;D
A witness is Constance Bangs - who's mother adopted Mary Jane's sister - Elizabeth - everything is interconnected!!
Just shows you - keep ALL details - however irrelevant they seem at the time!!
Thanks for all the help so far.
Cheers

Hi Peter,
I knew we were a close knit family down there - but this is getting ridiculous!!
Looks like the Hitchin Mafia to me. ;D ;D
You better give me ALL your information - or else!! ;D
Once again - ThankYou :D :D
Keith
-
Hi Peter,
Why does the more information mean more headaches!!
I was just entering the last lot you found for me - started at the bottom as William Westwood is my direct line - and found George born in 1847.
I have that they had a son George in 1831 - on checking the IGI reference C072481 - I have noted that only the mother's name is down - as Mary Westwood.
I have a marriage for Mary Knight and William Westwood in 1833 - and thought that George (1831) might be illegitimate - but now realise that his name would then have been George Knight!!
I have George (senior) in the 1871 census at the Horse & Jockey in Hitchin - with his family - but will now have to see if he really is one of my lot. This is from a bit ago - when I thought that Westwood was an uncommon name!!
I presume the name of their daughter - aged 8 - is Maria - as this is what I have already down (might be right this time!!)
Could I be a real pain and ask you to check William's occupation - in 2 later census records I have him down as a "General Smith" and "Blacksmith" - I didn't think they learned smithing later in life!! I must (!!) be right as in 1861 I have him living at the "Back of Highlander" - but....
Did I say Thank you ;D
Cheers
Keith
P.S. - At least I am making use of all you find for me !! ::) ::)

][/color] WALLER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 12 OCT 1825 Hitchin, Hertford, England
3. HENRY WALLER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 04 APR 1827 Hitchin, Hertford, England
Nice when they do that isn't it!! I believe that is quite common in Scotland to have a middle name from the wife's family.
Also I have in 1881 William Worboys living with his niece Henrietta Harman, whose mother's maiden name was Waller!!
So Some of the information locks other things in place!
Strange though I haven't found my original request yet - but hey, have another 20 relatives instead!! ;D ;D
Thanks again Peter.
Cheers

Hi Keith,
I studied the blown up version of the 1851 entry for George Westwood at HALS today and can confirm that his occupation is recorded as WHITE SMITH.
Sorry about the confusion.
Regards ... Peter
-
Hi Keith ,just wondering if you know how "Waller" is pronounced. (I have some Waller connections in my tree) Is it as in Fats Waller or as in someone who builds a wall?

Hi Peter & Gazza,
Peter
Thanks for the extra lookup Peter - will now go away and study what a white smith did!!
Gazza,
Never thought about that - I read it as in Fats Waller - but after having someone send me a tape of a broadcast for the pronunciation of another lot of mine - Faragher - I am most probably wrong!!
Just to boost my viewing figures try this:
http://batemans-history.rootschat.net/mcburnieandpartingtons.htm
I seem to be getting more like Paul E every moment ;D ;D
Where are yours from - could depend on what part of the country - how you pronounce the name.
Thanks for the interest both of you.
Cheers
Keith
