Title: 1876 - Barracks in Mullingar?
Post by: Dave Francis on Tuesday 27 September 05 23:32 BST (UK)
I haven't yet attempted to delve into the ancestry of my ancestor Daniel Gilmore (c1841 in Belfast, father Mortimer Gilmore a carpenter).  However, I do know that he served in the Royal Scots in the early 1870s and that he and his wife Elizabeth (nee Quinton) had a daughter called Agnes who was born in Mullingar in 1876 or earlier.  I also suspect that Agnes died before the next Census in England & Wales.

Quite simply: why would Daniel and his wife have been in Mullingar in 1876?  Was there a local barracks?  Was it used by the Royal Scots?

Regards

Dave
