Does anyone have any information about the Daveneys of Colton, whom I'm led to believe were quite a locally famous family.
My side of the family were Burton Daveney born 1799 in Colton, who I believe became a Major General in the Army and fought in the Crimea. He had a son Charles Richmond who moved to Halifax and married Sarah Parker.
I'd like to know where I can find information about the family, or if anyone knows anything of the family, I'd love to hear from them.

I have Fitty,
I got a load on information from this site, which helped me trace the family back hundreds of years. I'm after more detail about the family though: if they were a prominent family, there might be other records or info which gives more information as to where they lived, what they did for a living, etc.

Hi me again, I just thought to try for Deveney and I found your Burton here he is.
-
That's great information, thanks, Anjo, I found a will relating to John Deveney listed in 1851, he left everything to his brother Burton, who's my gggg gf. I might have to have a trip down to see what else I can find.
Thanks again,
Adam

I'm not sure if this research is still in progress but I am a direct descendant of the many listed below. My grandmother was a Daveney from Colton where I have visited many times and Morley Travers Daveney was the last member of this branch of the family to retain the Daveney family name. He was my grandmother's cousin as was his sister
Let me know if this helps
