Hello Jaq
This is the family I am looking for, i found John Peagram, wife Sarah and son James Unmarried in the 1871 census, but wasnt sure if he was the father of George he was eldest peagram I could find
John Peagram born 1788
Sarah (wife) 1794 Chairwomen
James 1828
1871
John 83 of Rayne, Essex and Wife Sarah 77 of Margaret, Roding
and son James of Rayne, unmarried aged 43 also living in Rayne Essex.
Later in the Census, this family were living at the Street Rayne, Essex.
As for the surname Peagram, there are lots of other variations of this surname, so far I have manged to link this surname with no variations, but as you say there is a strong chance there was mistakes in the spelling of this name.
Thanks again

Hi Joanne.
My mother was a Peagram from Rayne and I have a record of George and Susannah nee Livermore.
You are correct with the dates by the way.
They had 3 children at the time Elizabeth (who I think may be my Gt Grandmother), Emma and Alfred.
Georges brother Samuel who was married to Elizabeth French also had a daughter named Elizabeth (or Eliza) and I cannot find out which one is my Gt Grandmother.
Whichever one she was she had my Grandfather, Frank Peagram in 1875 allegedly by an Italian immigrant.
Hope this helps and would love to hear from you.
Regards

Hello Keith
Long time no see!
There is a 3rd Eliza Peagram born Rayne & baptised 06.04.1845, who in the 1871 census Aged 26) was "in service" in Witham. Her parents were Joseph & Eliza Peagram.
In the 1881 census she appears to be in service in Kent.
Joseph was born 1818 the son of John & Sarah Peagram.
The 1871 census shows Frank as living with George & Susannah and is called a boarder, so you can rule out George as your GG Grandfather.
A George Peagram was baptised in Rayne on 24.07.1830, his parents were John and Sarah.
A Samuel Peagram was baptised in Rayne 05.12.1833, his parents were John & Sarah.
Samuel's Eliza was born in 1860 and married Thomas Richardson at Rayne on 05.11.1880
George's Eliza was born 1862/63 and in the 1881 census is still at home.
I summary John & Sarah Peagram had three sone, George, Samuel and Joseph. Each of them had a daughter named Eliza/Elizabeth.
The only Eliza who was working as a servant in Witham in 1871 and according to you Keith, Eliza the mother of Frank Peagram was in service when he was born in 1875. Then Joseph must be your GG Grandfather.
I hope it makes sense.

Hi , I know I'm a bit late to this chat but I might be able to help. I'm a 'peagram' born in NZ. My dad explained our history to me a while ago. He said that our family changed their name from pegram to peagram due to coming over on the ship as stowaways. it was a cover or something.
Does this help?
Thank you :)
